Year 2005 statistics for BYOAC & Forums
« on: January 07, 2006, 12:35:29 pm »
2005 stats - why am I sharing? I don't know. There are some interesting tidbits in here...

For the main site in 2005 (not including the message forums!), BYOAC saw:

590,000 unique visitors

1.2 million visits

6.3 million pages served (not including another 1 million served to web robots, 404 errors and such)

31.7 million hits (each page, image, file, etc. counts as a hit. When a site tells you how many hits they get it can mean anything from unique visits to each piece of material on the page so it's a fairly vague statistic). That doesn't include another 1.5 million hits for robots and such.

340 gigs worth of bandwidth used, not including the 67 gigs used by web robots.

The top 10 countries visiting, in order, are:
- United States
- Germany
- Canada
- Great Britain
- Australia
- Mexico
- .COM sites (unknown origin)
- .NET sites (unknown origin)
- Brazil
- Italy

67% of visitors used Internet Explorer, 23% used Firefox, 3.4% used unknown(?), 2% used Opera, 1.7% used Safari, 1.6% used Mozilla, .8% are still using Netscape, .1% are using Konquer.

=================

For the message forums in 2005 (not including the main site), BYOAC saw:

585,000 unique visitors

1.3 million visits

23 million pages served (not including another 4 million served to web robots, 404 errors and such)

120 million hits. That doesn't include another 4 million hits for robots and such.

693 gigs worth of bandwidth used, not including the 68 gigs used by web robots.

The top 10 countries visiting, in order, are:
- United States
- Canada
- Great Britain
- Australia
- .NET sites (unknown origin)
- .COM sites (unknown origin)
- Completely unknown
- Netherlands
- France
- Germany

The forums most visited, in order, were:
- Main
- Buy/Sell/Trade
- Everything Else
- Software
- Project Announcements
- Artwork
- Consoles
- Arcade Miscellaneous

72% of visitors used Internet Explorer, 20% used Firefox, 2.2% used Opera, 1.8% used Mozilla, 1.3% used Safari, .5% used unknown, .5% are still using Netscape.

Interesting statistic: 83% of the forum visitors use 1024 x 768 screen resolution or greater.

The number 1 top keyphrase used to search BYOAC was.... "chicken hunter" ! Of course, that was also only 1% of the phrases used, with 95.8% being other phrases. The number 1 single keyword used to search BYOAC was "mame"... (Why were .3% of you searching for "rasterbater?")

Since the site is so popular, can we all get a bonus allowance of 200 post counts pretty please?  :)
Now in a tasty new flavour.

The thing that confuses me is the placement of Germany in the contry lists for main site and message boards.  They're number two for the main site, but barely on the list for the message boards.

Weird.

I've been helping the creators of MaLa FE based in Germany a little and in doing so have discovered there are heavily used German Mame Forums (in German).

I guess they just all come over to check out what new Projects have been posted at BYOAC, but even though most speak English prefer to discuss it in their native tongue on there own countries Forum sites.

That would be my guess anyway.

Did you do the search?  There's only 1 thread it is mentioned in other than this one and THAT's why it is used in search.  Cool program.

Only 2/3rds of the people use IE...

Rasterbater is that wicked cool program that lets you make humongous images (such as sideart) using "dots' that, at a distance of a few feet or so away, then give you an idea of how something will look.

I don't recall if I ever searched here for it, but I know I found it on another site.

Why the hell are some many of you still using IE!

Some folks who frequent here do so from work where they don't have a choice but to use what's installed by sysadmin's.  All the rest of 'em are taking the Stingray-approved method of dealing with their computer.
