Jukebox Apps and Remotes
« on: January 04, 2006, 01:25:43 pm »
Just in the planning stages for my jukebox and I was wondering are there any widgets out there that will allow you to use a remote control with your PC? Some USB infared device or anything???

If you use windows XP Media Centre edition, you can use a remote control if you buy the infra red unit.

There is one device that is Media Center specific, and other third party devices that have been known to work using different tools.

Medio will use the same controller.  And there are Grid products that will take third party controllers and convert them to be used with Medio.

My advice, find yourself a good RF Mouse Pointing device and a Jukebox software that supports Mouse Interaction, which is pretty much all of them.

Otherwise, I'd probably be looking at something like a streaming media device like the Audiotron or the Omnifi from Fosgate.

Or, bypass the entire jukebox thing and get a SlimDevices player...

The SlimDevice wouldn't be nearly as fun to put up. Plus you really can't "look" at the music and scroll through a selecetion or view album covers, etc...

I'll have to see if I can get a copy of the windows media center and play around with some things...

i used this with girder.   It looks like newer versions of girder are not free, but the older versions were.   I got my remote off ebay for around 5 dollers so the whole thing was about 10 bucks with shipping.

I could never get this sucker working, so if you can let me know how you have it setup, that would be nice!  I tried every combination of settings, but even the remote that comes with the unit would come up as the exact same command every time, no matter what button I pushed.
