Can I install two Mame applications on the same computer?
« on: January 03, 2006, 08:31:01 pm »
I have v81 already installed on my computer and would like to install v103 as well, while keeping v81 installed.

If I install the Mame-v103 in a separate directory then will there be any problems executing either v81 or v103 (whichever I want)?

I want to make sure there are no registry, highscores, etc ... stuff which will cause problems if I have two different versions of Mame installed at one time....

Don't do it!  Otherwise your eyes will explode, and some ooze, perhaps eye-goop, will drip from the sockets.  And you'll die.

Versions of Mame32 used registry settings for some things a year or two ago.

Mamewah (and probably other FE's) will let you configure one emu/menu for one version and another for the other -- you can then switch to the appropriate emu to see whichever games you've got intended for it (as defined by maintaining separate ROM folders)...

I've been using multiple versions of mame for years with my frontend.

It started with the sega rewrite not being done for a few years... and I wanted to be able to play shinobi and others.

so I had two versions.

Now I use it for analog+mame for the games that require it... and mameplus for all the others (I love being able to read the game docs on my cab without extra keys)
