computer power supply with built in outlet

I remeber I read a post a while back about a computer power supply with a built-in power outlet.  The person who posted it said it would be good for a mame cab because you could plug in your montior, speakers, etc into an outlet strip, and plug that strip into the outlet on the power supply.  Then, everything would turn off and on with your PC.

Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

I have a little adapter for power supplies with the extra 3 prong jack in the back.  However I haven't seen a PS with the extra plug in some time.  I'm sure they are easier to find than one with a regular wall jack though (?)

For what it's worth, that jack is only intended for the smaller monochrome monitors that was the standard when this was the norm, and they actually had the plug that fit that connector.

I would not plug anything else into it unless you knew the amperage rating-probably marginal. Plus, you would have to install a second surge protector on the power supply which is vital.

An idea might be to use this jack to trigger a relay if that function is important to you.

The person who posted it was me.  The power supply is the Vantec ION 400B.  Here's the original thread...

Note that the 400B is, as far as I know, the only Vantec model with the outlet on the back.

The switch is wired directly to the motherboard where the case switch normally plugs in.

Press it once, the PC starts up and loads windows, press it again and it triggers the shutdown process and shuts down windows normally.

Krick, does that supply kick as much butt as it says it does?  I definately want to throw on a power strip with all my arcade cab stuff and have it turn on and off with the PC.

Where's the best place I can buy/order this bad boy from?

ALSO, the website says it works with pentium mobos.  I am looking to build an Athalon computer.  Will it work?

If you guys could give me some help in the motherboard selection process, I'd appreciate that to.  I saw this one in comp usa the other day, but I dont know if the board is good, or if the price is good.
(I definately need an AGP slot for an Arcade VGA card tho)

The mobo I saw was an ABIT AV8 Socket 939 Motherboard for $150.  Is this compatible with the power supply?

You are going to use a outlet strip anyway....

I just finished (well 90%) anyway my first cab and I used this.  I mounted a momentary switch in my speaker panel and wired it to the Power swtich connection on the motherboard.  Couldn't have been simpler and works like a charm.  Fires everything up with one push; shuts it down just as easy as well.

I even added a potentiometer to my PC speakers so I have a volume control knob as well.

I am so proud of myself.  LOL
