WTB - used air hockey table
« on: February 05, 2003, 11:53:59 am »
I'm looking to buy an air hockey table as an addition to mame cab.. (sort of a game room)

I like the idea of having an actual arcade style air hockey table.. (coin-op, scoreboard, heavy duty, etc) rather than a home variety that you can buy somewhere like costco or big-5.

Does anyone know of some good places to get a hold of one of these?  I will probably drive as I don't want to pay for shipping on 600 lbs :)  I live in central CA so they can't be too far from that area.. (within a few hundred miles)

Are you brave enough to build one?  Its a whole lot of hole drilling.  I was doing a google search one night because a friend and I decided it couldn't be to hard.  I finally found a post form '99 saying that someone built one with the guys email address.  So we sent an email and the guy forwarded us the plans.  We haven't set out to building it yet as both my friend and I are apartment people and our wives haven't been ready to give up a whole room.

I certainly think its do able.  I am not paying the asking price for a dynamo table.
Oh, I have heard that there was a good one at Sams club.

Anyway, let me know.  I can email them or maybe put them in a yahoo briefcase or something.

Well, I did ya one better.  I made a webpage, with the construction notes I was sent, and the two pics I was sent.  I hope I didn't mislead ya, they aren't step by step plans.  Just a couple of pics and some construction notes.

Here is a link to my page.

There is a link on the front page called Hockey table plans

Thanks for the reply..

I have thought about it... but i'm going to take a look at what a used one would run first... if they are waaaay out of my budget I may contemplate building again... but for the most part they are a little more tricky than a cab :)

Where in central cal.  I live in modesto and picked up an old steel top for nothing.  The place I got it was in Sac. and they had a couple of dynamo's that they were selling.  I don't remember what they were asking.

I was in modesto just last friday.. hehehehe

where was this place at in Sac that you went?  Do you have pictures of your steel top?  It would be nice to pick up a dynamo but weren't sure what they were asking eh?

If you have their information i'll give them a call..  Also have you ever checked out that arcade place on McHenry?? Right across from alcapolco?

Add about 15 years of dents and dings.
I called the company asking them about other stuff and just happened to ask them about air hockey.  They told me they had one in the alley that they didn't have room for.  I jumped in my truck in about 1/10th of a second.  The scoring system doesn't work and I had to replace the blower motor (I put in a home heating/air conditioning blower..Man that suckers loud)  I might wind up buying an actual air hockey blower motor..what the hell the table was free.

I will post the name of the company monday night when I get home from work.  I think they wanted like 700 for the Dynamo tables they had.

As for that place on McHenry (Juicer/Sign Company/Cell Phone/Used Arcade Machines)  I have not been in there are there prices any good.  I spoke to a vendor the other day and she said he bought alot of there old stuff.

700 isn't too bad if it's one of their better models and in good shape..  but of course I'd like to get a good deal if I can..

the place on mchenry.. i've never been in.. saw it a couple of times as I drove past though.. would be nice to walk and look around in there... are they open regular hours or do you need an appointment or something? hehe

I don't know what their hours are.  Im' guessing that the prices are a little high since the inventory in the window never changes.

Sacramento Amusement.  I don't have the number right now.  He just called me to tell me he has a Star Wars cockpit.  Guess he forgot I already bought one from him  ;D.

Man I thought those things were supposed to be rare  ???

thanks.. i'll have to check them out..

cool thing is.. my wife wants an air hockey table too.. so it shouldn't be a problem procuring the funds to buy a nice one hehe..  it will go good with a mame cab in the same room.. rig them to both take tokens/quarters
