Got it working (Re: HELP: Trying to connect two PS/2 keyboards)
« on: December 31, 2005, 03:36:55 pm »
I am trying to connect two PS/2 keyboards at the same time.   One of the keyboards is plugged into the PS/2 port and works fine.

The other keyboard I tried to connect to the computer using a PS/2 to USB connector which I bought (see link below), however, when I plugged the keyboard into that, it did not work.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8739666250&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D8739666250%26fvi%3D1

The USB cable I bought is recognized by WinXP when I plug it in, however, the keyboard which is plugged into it does nothing .....

I do not want to buy a USB keyboard, so I was wondering how I can connect two PS/2 keyboards together at one time.

stupid question, but did you verify that just plugging in the keyboard w/usb adapter by itself is recognized?

I.E. nothing plugged into ps/2, just the keyboard plugged into usb.

also check that you have USB Legacy support enabled in your bios, had that problem on my cars computer when it lost its cmos settings and reloaded defaults, unfortunatley defaults were NO LVDS interface (my screen connects on lvds), No PS2 Mouse (touchscreen is ps2 interface), No usb support (KB, GPS wireless lan are all USB) I was not amused when i had to strip the computer out of the car to reset it all (meant ripping out the entire dash)

I have this same kind of setup and it works, so there must be something else going on.  I 2nd the suggestsions to make sure that the USB dongle works at all.  I have:

keyboard encoder -> ps/2 keyboard port
keyboard -> ps/2 ->USB dongle
mouse -> ps/2 -> USB dongle
trackball -> seen as mouse though serial port
spinner -> seen as mouse through ps/2 mouse port
No crap, don't put your kids in a real fridge.

I GOT IT WORKING !

It seems if I plug in my keyboard in the mouse PS2 port on the adapter, then moved the keyboard to the proper "keyboard" PS2 port on the USB adpater, then it does not work.   This is what I did originally .... and somehow the keyboard does not register after I improperly connect/reconnect it.

Anyway, I simply plug the keyboard into the correct PS2 port on the adapter and plug the USB cable into the computer and it works fine ..... oh well..... it least it works now ...

never thought plugging in a keyboard would take so long .....   ;D

Thanks for everyone's help
