CP materials/thickness
« on: February 04, 2003, 04:57:20 pm »
It seems like 3/4 plywood/mdf/whatever is generally used for building CPs. I notice a lot of folks use 3/4, add plexi or lexan and end up routing 1/4 inch of wood from the inside of the panel to adjust the joystick height. Is there any reason why 1/2 wood + 1/4 plexi/lexan isn't used to begin with? Is 1/2 wood not sturdy enough? I have both 1/2 + 3/4 but I'm not sure which to use.

usually because you buy mdf in 4'x8' sheets:)   Using vailable material.  I wouldn't buy a sheet JUST for the cp since that;s too much wood.

hehe....that is exactly what i did last night SirP!   ;D
bought myself a 4x8 sheet of 5/8 mdf just for the CP.

some of it will probably go towards a shelf for my DC inside, and the rest of it - ???  i will probably use some of the extras for "test" CPs.   ::)

4'x8' is alot of wood.  I can build two subwoofer enclosers with that.

well.. some enclosures can get pretty large.. maybe two small ones.. if your talking a 5cu vented enclosure...

the CP I made might be overly large.. not sure yet..  I made it four player.. and spaced them out enough for it to be comfortable..

it is basically half an octagon more or less.. 48" across the top..  ~30" across the bottom..  so just for the top and bottom of my CP it was almost a half sheet... now what about the sides? clearly I need to use the other half sheet?
