New Act-Labs guns any good for MAME?
« on: December 25, 2005, 12:06:26 am »
http://www.act-labs.com/products/gun1.htm

Has anyone tried these guns with Mame yet?  They look awesome, but before I shell out $79.99 each and buy two of them, I'd like to see if anyone has tried them out yet?

The actlabs site says they are MAME compatable, but are they really?  I'm talking their PC version, not their TV S-Video version.... Looks like they hae a version for LCD/Plasma displays too now :-)

 thanks!

Do a search. There is plenty of information to read about them.

The problem with doing a search, or using the video review, is that these light guns go through so many changes. Seems like Act Labs is constantly redoing or reissuing them, making previous opinions on them relatively useless.

Wouldn't this make any commets invalid then since we are all commenting on old designs?

Whats your video CRT?

If your using a TV or arcade CRT consider going with the gun2con and the driver (search for the giant thread here).  Its the best and cheapest solution... plus you can get guns that look like guns.  Trouble is they don't have a VGA board thats verifiable.... lots have almost got it working I guess but not confirmation without issues (like some resolutions don't work).

Next... VGA...  Then act labs is probably the best solution.  Good gun.  Feel cheap.  Trigger on new models break.  Not arcade worthy in any way.  It will be the cheapest item on you machine.   But its still the best solution out there.  Getting two guns to work together requires analog+ mame (with core powers  :) ) or old nonamemame version.
