It's all preference.  If you can get the opportunity to try one of each, you should.

I like the Happs, and have heard that others do, because of the "click" noise/response.  I've never tried the leafs, but I'm pleased with what I've got.

Drilling the holes for the LEDs was pretty simple and more an issue of my own aim since I was doing it by hand, but Happs is kind enough to provide a nice little circle in the bottom for you to aim at.

so much more about preference.

Personally, I really, truly wanted metallic buttons.  Dead serious.

However, I'm more into the "total design" of my cabinet, and the translucents go with that total design more.  If/when I do a mini/bartop cab, I'm going to really consider the metallics.

Leaf switches are a matter of feel.  They don't click because they don't have the micro-switches, but they "bounce back" more, if that makes sense... You will have to re-adjust the leaf switches since they actually make connections.

I know I'm not making any sense here...  Think of digital joystick vs. analog for the microswitch vs leaf spring ....    bleh...  so maybe I can't describe the differences as well as I thought I could... :P

The DreamArcades ones come with a light.

Leaf buttons (FXbuttons)  I know the hole sizes have to be bigger.

FXbuttons does not sell leaf buttons, they sell (and were the first to sell) the translucent microswitch buttons.

Translucent leaf buttons can be had from www.centsibleamusements.com or, if you're really brave and don't mind your order being late and screwed up, www.wicothesource.com.  Wico is NOT reccomended, but others have managed to get buttons from them.

Just be sure that you don't get the plain Translucent Buttons from centsible, as they are convex. I'm not sure about the leafs (convex or concave).

The Dream Arcades buttons come with the LED. They are built-in, so you do not have to figure out how to modify the button to add them. They even have the Resistor included so you don't have to worry about blowing them out if you get the polarity wrong.

You won't "blow out an LED if you get the polarity wrong".  LEDs are diodes, light emitting ones per the abbreviation.  If you hook a diode up backwards, it simply does not conduct.  Or in the case of the LED, illuminate.

The inclusion of the resistor is only beneficial if you are using the voltage the resistor was intended for.  If you want to drive it with 5v and it's designed for use with 12v, the resistor causes a problem unless you can swap it out easily.

There are calculators all over the Internet for figuring out the proper resistors to use with LEDs.  If one takes a minute to look them up, they are dead simple to use.

Happs Translucent (The Type that are being sold in this forum)
You mean the one's sold by ponyboy?

Dream Arcades (Frosted top)  Does that really matter....They claim the led does not show??  BAsed on the pics I have seen, I dont see the led in either of them.
I don't have experience with these.

Quote
Leaf buttons (FXbuttons)  I know the hole sizes have to be bigger.
fx sells micros, not leafs, and are compatible with happs.

You can go leaf if you like too.

yes they are.  You should buy all of them from there.  When you get them in your hand, will you make sure to tell us we were right if you like them, and wrong if you hate them?  Why aren't you grasping what Roughy is saying?  If YOU like them, does it mean they're not "right", since you "want to do this right"?

Stop asking the same damn thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.  It's also annoying since "cool" and "doing this right" don't necessarily go hand in hand even though you seem to think so.  You aren't even picking up on your own desire to make things look cool even though they might not look right.  Read your own words.  "I'm clueless but need lights connected to my buttons".  No you don't.  You WANT lights.  You don't "NEED" lights, so stop asking 50 brazilian times.

GO PICK UP SOME OF THE TWO DOLLAR BUTTONS AND TELL US IF THEY'RE COOL.

::)                ::)                ::)                ::)                ::)

Yeah, I guess you're right, wherever would I have gotten that impression? ::)  You aren't asking about bulbs vs LED's, you continue to ask "whutz kewler doodz?"  pssst.  Your quotes betray the fact I'm right and show you to be attempting CYA maneuvers.  Spend the 2 bucks, since clearly they'll work and R teh kewl.  You'll never know if you like them better than the other style until you hold them in your hand and compare them side by side, but what do I know, going and following my own advice ::)

While you're at it--and this isn't meant to come across as harsh--could you exercise a little etiquette and stop the AOL-speak?

Unless you're visiting this via a mobile phone with standard 12-key entry, please try and utilize such things as grammar and punctuation to help us all out.

As it is now, it is very difficult to read your posts and feel like a response will be either understood or even that the right question is being answered.

Above all else, these are great people.  Try not to piss them off much--it's tough enough to do, but I think you've somehow managed to find the yellow brick road to doing exactly that.

This is a site made up primarily of adults, although there are many high school age persons as well.  We prefer to post in correct English.  Basically, try and compose each post as if you were answering a question in English class.  Smilies should be used sparingly and text-message abbreviations should be avoided.  Complete thoughts, if not sentences are a must in order to help.

And help you we will young Padawan - because we like cool buttons, too.
