Upgrade Golden Tee 99 to Golden Tee 2005 ?
« on: December 22, 2005, 11:04:39 am »
Hi..
I'm looking a purchasing a Golden Tee 99 for $995 for a friend. They love Golden Tee, but we are wondering if it is possible to upgrade Golden Tee 99 to Golden Tee 2005, using the Golden Tee 2005 PCB and Golden Tee 99 CP + various other internals. Anyone have experience upgrading in this manner? Or, better yet - is the Golden Tee 2005 PCB even available for sale yet?

Suggest contacting tech support at the game manufacturer www.itsgames.com as they can likely answer your questions properly.

The golden tee Fore! board is standard jamma.  You can get the manual from the website at www.itsgames.com to check the pinout, but I'm pretty sure it's the same (or nearly the same).  There are extra buttons on the golden tee Fore! Machines however for backspin and Fly-By mode.  You'll have to add these to the panel.

The monitor on a Golden Tee also is standard resolution.  You can run a Golden Tee Fore! level board at standard resolution but it doesn't look as good as it does running natively on a Medium Resolution monitor.  Download the manual for ANY Golden tee Fore! board (I have the manual for 2004 if you need it). You'll need it to set the dip switches on the board for Std resolution output.

While Golden Tee Fore does use a Jamma Harness, it is not wired "standard."  Power to the board is not routed through the harness.

You can pick up a Golden Tee Fore 2005 board on Ebay.  The things you will need to make it work are:  PCB, hard drive, power supply.  I suggest you buy an auction that includes all three (at least the PCB & Hardrive as you HAVE to have those).  You also need a wiring harness to connect the trackball to the PCB directly (I made one) and an IDE cable to connect the hard drive to the PCB.

When you find a Golden Tee Fore 2005 PCB setup on Ebay, keep in mind that it could have started as a Golden Tee Fore 2002, 2003, or 2004 that got upgraded each year.  No biggie, just be aware of that.

Also, you will see that there are Green Boards and Red Boards.  The Red Boards are newer than the Green boards and use a standard ATX power supply, so I would recommend getting the Red board if at all possible.

As for the monitor, a Betson Imperial 27" Multisync will work with the GT Fore board at Medium Res and is less expensive than a dedicated EGA monitor.

Good Luck.

Thanks for all the info. Very useful. This looks like what I need to get:

http://cgi.ebay.com/IT-Golden-Tee-Fore-2005-kit-w-5-buttons-and-switches_W0QQitemZ6238370568QQcategoryZ13718QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I'll see what they want to do. If they want to go ahead with it, I'll post pictures of the upgrade.

Thanks again
