Specialty Plastics & Randy Fromm?
« on: December 21, 2005, 01:58:36 pm »
I was checking the links section of my web page, as I do on occasion, and noticed that both Specialty Plastics and Randy Fromm's tech page are both down.  I think Specialty Plastics has been down for a while, but I was wondering if anybody might have known where it went to.  Randy's site seems to be up and down all the time but I was wondering if it's been moved.

Last I heard, Randy's Tech server was down again and not expected to return until the New Year (can't remember where I read this, though). Was, of course, right when I wanted something.

Cheers.

Apparently, you can still buy his DVDs\Manuals. His other site is up now:

I believe that Speciality Plastics got a "cease and decist" order from Wayne Gillard of The Pinball Factory (the new licensees of Bally/William's IP) over their repro pinball parts.

He may have just decided to pull up everything and stop (Specialty Plastics made repro Tron handles, didn't they?)

These are dark times in the pinball world because of all these threats of lawsuits, and I'm afraid there may have been some collateral damage in the arcade repro world...

I think Randy has gotten upset that his stuff was being distributed all over the net.

I see a lot of tech sites that said he asked them to take his stuff off.

His Arcade School stuff is good if you have no clue. It got me started on working on PCB's and the Monitors. I don't think I would have learned anything about them if it wasn't for those tapes. He's one of the best at explaining arcade specific electronics.

Randy is publishing star tech journal now. Maybe he's wanting to drum up some demand for good tech info.

That's a shame.
