Modifying the ezarcade spinner?
« on: December 19, 2005, 06:12:18 pm »
Okay, here's the plan.

I work in a hardware store nowadays and have access to plenty of supplies, but what seems to be the main problem with the EzArcade Spinners? Is it anything that can be tinkered around with, maybe adding a counterweight to get a heavier feel to the spin? For those of you who have them, does the design allow room for any sort of improvement?

If this has been done before please send me the links, I tried searching but didn't come up with anything about modifying these.
I had to beat them to death with their own shoes...

I don't have one of those spinners, I have the tonado spinner from Oscar...but I'd imagine some lead weights like they use in fishing tackle might be able to do the job...

Oh, and I always wanted to post this for you...A song by Pete Townshend... ;)

Quote
Johnny boy, he's always propping up the bar
He's sees life crystallized through his jar
He says he only lives for beer
But deep in his heart is a cry of fear

Heh, it always reminded me of the Gary Moore song:

When I hear that wind blow,
all across the Wicklow mountains.
Is it you I hear a calling?
Johnny boy, oh Johnny boy.

When I look to the west,
out across the River Shannon.
I can still see you smiling.
Johnny boy, oh Johnny boy.

When the leaves have turned to brown
and winter's due.
As I watch the sun go down,
I'll think of you.

When I hear that wind blow,
all across the Wicklow mountains.
Sure it's you, I'll hear a calling.
Johnny boy, oh Johnny boy.
I had to beat them to death with their own shoes...

You could also use rare earth magnets that Lee Valley sells...They would be easier to attach/detach...

Not sure how heavy they are, but they can hold a lot of weight...

Just a thought...

Yeah, if I can't find myself a V2 anytime soon, I'll grab one of the ezarcade ones and play around with them. I guess the lack of weight is probably the most common complaint. I'm sure I can get a stack of heavy washers from work and keep them from hitting the encoder wheel with a cotterpin or something. I'll keep you guys updated.

If anybody else has played around with these spinners please post.

Thanks.

I'm thinking about getting one also.  If you end up getting one let me know of your experiences :).

i've got two of them right now and the weight/spin seems to be mostly a non-issue for me thanks to some of the metal slik-stik tornado knobs I'm using in place of the craptastic ones that come with the ezarcade spinner.  Some of the other suggestions about adding extra weight would, I'm sure, add even more rotational intertia to keep it spinning longer.

I just can't figure out how to get the second one to drive player 2 but that's another post...

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

What was the point of bringing up such an old thread?
