tiny keyboard for my cab
« on: December 19, 2005, 04:04:43 pm »
I'm thinking about putting a tiny keyboard in my mame cab.

I found this one that has a built in trackball so I don't need to have a separate mouse.

What do you guys think?

Thats cool. The trackball seems a good idea. I'm not sure how comfortable it would be to use all the time. If your just using it for admin etc I think its a great idea. I went for a mini keyboard in mine as I needed space for a mouse etc as my only comp is in my cab and so i have to use the keyboard and mouse all the time.

Currently, I'm using a full sized Microsoft "natural" keyboard.  The kind with the angled split.  Along with a separate mouse.  I really hate this keyboard, by the way.

I keep them in my cabinet.  When I need to do admin stuff, I flip up the top on my control panel, lift out the keyboard and mouse, close the control panel, and sit them on top.

I really don't use the keyboard that much except when I'm configuring my cab.  I don't play PC games on it or anything as I have a 15KHz arcade monitor.

Why not a wireless keyboard?
Vids:  Home built MAME machine, Crystal Castles. Arkanoid
Pins:   Williams Aztec (working). Stern Nugent (not working...yet), Williams Phoenix (major not working, missing parts.... )

Always on the lookout for buying 90's game with Ramps that need work...

Why not a wireless keyboard?

dunno.  cost.  more stuff to go wrong.  you know, k.i.s.s. (keep it simple, stupid)

Plus it will be connected to the passthrough on my J-PAC and I'm not sure if it would play nice.

Also, I'd have to change the batteries from time to time in the transmitter and keyboard.  Just more hassle for something I don't really use all that often.

Best Buy and EB Games get Playstation 2 keyboards that are small and cost 14.99 each.  I have purchased a couple of these and they work great, and hook up through USB.  I can't find one on  their site at the moment though.

Edit...  Here is a link to logitech with a pic of the keyboard and info.

Top one is a Dauphin (9"), middle is an Adesso Micro (like 11"), bottom is your standard full size keyboard.
I use the Adesso in my cab, but I love my Dauphin. Now that is small.
