None of the encoders are recognized...
« on: December 17, 2005, 06:35:32 pm »
Sorry about the numerous questions but everytime I make some progress a question arises that I can't find information on. I have three GP 49 ways and a Mini Pac attached to my computer, and I was wondering if anything needs to be done the first time they're hooked up or if the computer should be doing it itself? I ran the three GP Wizs and a Mini pac to a USB hub and then ran the hub to my PC. There is power to the hub, and the computer tried to recognize the hardware the first time I started it, but I got an error message saying it couldn't install the hardware and I can't get it to try to recognize it once again. I moved the joysticks and trackball in Mamewah while they were all plugged in to see if anything worked and it didn't do anything. I assumed that you just plugged it into the pc and you were good to go. Is that the case or do I need some sort of drivers to get them recognized?

Run the GP 49 software available on Randy's site.

Isn't that just software to allow for switching modes through the computer?

I am now able to get the GP Wiz 49 encoders to read joystick movement and button presses in the calibration screen of the gamepad folder, but it still won't work in Mamewah.

The Mini pac really seems to be giving me issues though. I have three Mini-Pacs around for other cabinets I was planning to work on and I plugged each of them directly into the USB port of my PC and I only get messages saying that the USB device has malfunctioned and that I should try reconnecting it. Is there something I'm missing with this? I highly doubt that three Mini-Pacs are all malfunctioning, so I'm wondering if I need a driver or something, because for some reason my PC won't recognize the device.

I found this link and I'm wondering if I need to get newer boards, since I ordered these a year ago.  http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=25927.0

Markvp suggested the issues I'm having with the GP Wiz 49 ways are due to the fact that I didn't specify them as gamepads in the Mamewah.ini file. Since they don't work in Mame or any of the other emulators either I'm wondering if something needs to be done in the code for them as well. I'll play around some more and see what I'm able to come up with.

The problem I had with the Mini-Pac was with the jumpers. I had them on the wrong pins. This link will be able to help anyone out with the same problem in the future.

Do the GP-Wiz 49s not work once MAME is launched?  If that is the case, do you have Joystick ENABLED in MAME?  In other words, in your MAME .ini file where you have a bunch of stuff with either a 0 or 1 after it, there should be a line that says:  joystick 1

If it says: joystick 0       then MAME will not use gamepad inputs.
