Happ joystick question
« on: December 16, 2005, 01:28:35 am »
Hi, im fairly new to this forum and i was wondering about the happ joystick part # 50-7604-10.
I have 2 of these but i want to put them in my MKII cab, but there only 4 way joysticks... is there any way i can convert them to 8 way joysticks?

According to Happ, that part # is a 4-way Ultimate.  I'm afraid it won't convert to 8-way, unless you want to try taking a file to the joystick base and making the hole the shaft goes into round.

The only difference between the 4-way and 8-way happs ultimate joystick appears to be the actuator.  You can replace the round 4-way actuator with the square-ish 8-way, part #95-0267-00, (and remove the 4-way washer/spacer) and be good to go.

I could be wrong, though, and you might need to file; I don't have one of these.  But happs showns them without any restrictors, so I think I'm right.  ;)

http://happcontrols.com/joysticks/ultimate_joy.htm

Have a look at the prices on that page.  There's an 8-way model, a 4-way model, and a 2-way model.  Show me the two-way actuator.  ;D

Seriously, they only show the 8-way model in the mounting diagram, and it can be used with either actuator, just like the other Happ joys.  But they also sell a dedicated 4 way and 2 way version, and they are truly restricted.  But there's no visible restrictor to show in that diagram, because it's not a separate part- it's built into the joystick base.  Bacically, the round hole the shaft pokes out of isn't round on the 4 way model.  I've got one in the parts closet, but I can't get to it to dig it out for a photo op, because there are 50 games stacked in front of it.  (somebody, click my sig and buy some games, please.  I need space around here.)  Maybe Mufasso can snap a pic of his.
