Ipac 2 only lets player one play
« on: December 13, 2005, 03:47:25 pm »
I've got the Ipac 2 installed and choose the two player option. When it goes to player 2's turn, the only controls that work are the ones on player one's side. It seems that the ONLY buttons that work on the player two side are player 2 start and player 2 coin. I tried to program the Ipac with the utility that came with it, but after 45 minutes, I gave up and figured out that it was stuck. So does anyone here have any idea what is up?

What exactly are you trying to play? Sounds like you may be playing something older that alternates controls, which explains why both are using the same set.

Can you test in notepad that the player 2 controls are working?

??? Now that you mention it, is the two player side for playing two people at once? I tried Pac Man, Ms Pac Man Alpine Ski and a couple others like that. How would I test it in notepad?

Just open up notepad like normal. When you press any button assigned to a normal key (not shift, cntrl, alt, etcetera) then you will have that letter displayed in notepad.

All of player 2's MAME defaults are letter keys, so it's easy to test player 2 by going into notepad and playing with your controls there.

Thanks brophog, it's been so long since I played on a real arcade machine, I forgot that the older games usually used the same controller when the players switched turns. The notepad thing worked too. Guess I'm in business now.  :)

BTW, When I went into Mame under the general controls I reset player two's keys. Is there any way to "reset them to default" within Mame (or Mame32 which is what I am using)?

Delete the .ini and .cfg files for the game you want to reset the controls.

thanks markrvp, I am assuming that deleting these files for the whole mame will reset the game too? (I did the general config settings)

Mame will attempt to recreate it's missing files.
