Apologies if this has been posted but I have attempted a search and haven't seen anything.

There is a new type of Act Labs gun on pre-order which can be used on projectors, TFT's etc etc

http://www.actlab.com/products/gun1.htm

Check out the bottom of the link for the new Sengital gun.

Seems pretty lame. Motion based?! If I didn't care about having to adapt to new forms of control and not being able to look down the sight, I would use a mouse. Someone please tell me that these guns are more reliable than they look.

I wouldn't touch this thing with a 10-foot pole. I have been severely UN-impressed with act-labs products and business practices and I expect this gun to be equally crappy. I continue to wait patiently for some genius BYOAC'er to invent a way to use a real arcade gun (like Happ's) with mame. C'mon guys I know you can do it! :)

Eric.

Guncon2 isn't good enough?  Surely you've seen the 20 page thread about that.  If not, run a search.

I want my own arcade controls!

Actually yeah I've read a little on the GunCon2 thing. I guess I am just not totally "getting" it. I am hoping for a more plug-n-play thing and not a complex project. Perhaps the GunCon2 has been perfected and I am just not aware of it -- I will read up on it and get up to speed.

Thanks
Eric.

Actually the new gun seems pretty interesting.  I've used the tv guns and they work quite well.  The new gun eliminates the need for a screen flash which would allow a person to play games like operation wolf and revolution x.
The only caveat is the accuracy of the motion based sensing.  I won't pass judgement on the new gun until someone here gives it a review.

I posted that last night just before I went to bed so I didn't really have time to comment.

What I find interesting about the gun is that it can be played on TFT and Projector screens with no flash, I know there are other projects ongoing down this avenue but they are mainly for consoles.

As for other Act Labs guns I found the original ray gun USB PC Gun to be very accurate and easy to setup, i do however have a couple of gun cons which I have yet to setup.

Besides another type of gun on the market can only be good news as at very least some people on here will try and reverse engineer or improve on it.

Thats a cool idea, and I'd love to play some shooters on my big screen TV, but I don't think I would like tipping the gun left/right intead of just pointing it to aim.
I target shoot, and I don't think I'd get any immersion from using a gun that doesn't aim like a real one.

In the demo videos, notice how the user did not point the gun "outside" of the screen boundaries.  He basically stayed within the laptop screen dimensions.  I was wondering what would happen if the gun was pointed outside an edge, then quickly moved back to a point in middle of screen.

Also, when watching the House of the Dead demo, doesn't it look like he's not pointing the gun exactly where the cursor is?  The cursor moves relative to the gun movement, not where its pointed.

Any thoughts?

It's exactly the same type of cursor movement as I get when I use my gyromouse.

http://www.gyration.com/

That works by small gyroscopes inside the mouse and does not require the mouse to be pointed at the screen. If that is the case then the guns are not new technology at all as I have already seen someone hack a gyromouse into a Console Gun for use in Virtual reality set.

Here's the link for a similar project, It has been posted on the boards previously.
