Happ illuminated pushbutton
« on: January 30, 2003, 11:49:51 am »
I got a red square illuminated pushbutton from Happ (item#: 57-0004-30). I'm planning to put a coin slot graphic on it as sort of a poor man's coin door. I've got two questions:

1. The microswitch/lamp assembly doesn't have anything that holds it in place on the back of the switch. Horizontal pushbuttons have little holes and corresponding nibs that hold the microswitch in place on the button, but the illuminated button doesn't seem to have anything like that. Is there some secret handshake that let's me attach the microswitch/lamp assembly?

2. I was hoping to snap off the front bezel and slip the coin slot image behind it. Does it come off? Or is it glued in place?

Thanks for your help,
Rob

Woops...never mind on the first question. I found installation directions on Happ's site. You just rock the assembly after its inserted and it snaps in place.

Still not sure on the second one though. If anybody has this type of switch and has successfully removed the front bezel then I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks,
Rob

I don't hve the square ones I have round ones but they are probably similar.

If you squeeze together the bottom tabs (one of them actually hits the microswitch)

then push it up through the body of the button. Once it is out the colored part is like a cap. Pop it off and you can put your graphic underneath. Reverse instructions to put back together.

I have kind of an exploded photo of an illuminated push button on my site here:

Thanks Birdtales. I took mine apart but was afraid to pry the cover loose. Your round button looks just like my square one so I'll try to coax it off with a jeweler's screwdriver tonight.

Thanks,
Rob

I have the square green lighted button, I think I popped a small standard screwdriver on the edge of the bezel and then just popped it right out.  My button had the word start on it, so I just used the edge of a very sharp knife and scraped the letter off, I then printed a .25 cent image on transparency paper and cut it to fit the button area.  It worked pretty well.  I have been trying to put pictures up, but I can never get them to show.  Hope that makes sense?

You guys were right. I took a screwdriver to it last night and the top popped right off. Thanks.
