I know all that.  But it seems to me that won't work for most cocktail owners which have controls on the vertical AND horizontal sides.
Ok, let's say you want to play pacman, you are going to sit on one of the vertical sides.  So your FE will be showing vertically.  Select pacman, ror gets sent to mame, all's fine.  You are done playing and exit mame, so the fE is still vertical.  Now you want to play street fighter on the horizontal side.  You go through the list and select street fighter.  Now if the fe sends ror the game orientation will be wrong.

It's needs to be an option, either always send ror, or send autoror so mame deals with how to orientate the game.

A cool feature for cocktail users would be to have a way to rotate the fe on the fly too, so when you change sides you can rotate the fe to that side.

sysrpl,
Great to see new stuff in the community!

Sounds like the rotation scheme you descibed is based on the FE orientation.

Okay, this might answer some questions. I posted a 60 second video here:

Sounds like the rotation scheme you descibed is based on the FE orientation.  So whatever the FE orientation is, it forces MAME to follow suit.  Example: FE being viewed vertically with 90 clockwise.  No matter what MAME game I pick, it will be displayed rotated 90 degrees clockwise.  Correct?  That is definetly useful for those with rotating displays.

I don't know. I never heard of FE.

That's exactly what I was saying =) All it does is pull up the games that run on the megatech hardware, not any info on the megatech hardware itself

We currently store title, manufacturer, year, genre, rom name, mono/stereo sound, raster/vector graphics, resolution, colors, screen orientation, number of players, controller type, number of buttons, number of coin slots, original rom, clone roms, related titles, screenshots, game description, game strategy, views, votes, and averaged score.

We aren't planning on storing other info at this time.

ADD: On that note though, if that is your database you are missing one or two games (that I know of as I own them) and also some info on them ie. some are stereo but most (all?) listed as mono

Of the 5768 machines we index, 2113 (or 37%) have stereo sound.
Sorry I wasnt clear, I meant that most of the Megatech games use stereo sound (only the SMS ports didnt like Shinobi, but Revenge of shinobi/streets of rage etc. did) and that you are also missing a couple of those (eg. streets of rage)

Apart from those tiny errors (that no one except me really cares about anyway ;D) you have a great database there, looking forward to seeing how it progresses =)

FE = front end.  In this case, your front end software.

Oh yeah, I knew that  ;D <sarcasm>

Can you also add a rotation scheme which is based on the GAME orientation?  So when a game is launched in MAME with one of the autorol/autoror parameters, when you return to the FE, the FE changes its orientation to whatever the last game was.  I tried explaning this before in the software forum in this http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=42355.msg388639#msg388639 post.

Here is what we think:

From a real world scenario, if you were using a 3 or even 4 sided you cocktail you are going to do the following:

Sit at the side of the table you feel like using, rotate the FE so that it faces you correctly, browse and launch games.

What we don't think is practical is the following:

Sit at the table, choose a game, launch a game, move to another seat, play a game, and then move back the correctly oriented FE seat.

FYI:

Check out the video 3 threads up if you missed it.

The FE tells gives you game details like, the name, genre, manufacter, orientation, players, controls, times played, last played date and time.
