Yes,  a pc analog stick will work.

As for the throttle.. use a 2nd analog stick for that.   Maybe change the handle to something a little nicer.. and limit it to only up/down.

It may be easier to find an Afterburner throttle on ebay and hook it up to your pc joystick guts.

If you are good at constructing things, it wouldnt be too hard to make your own.
Just remember that afterburners throttle is centered in the center.  (unlike a shifter which pulls to either up or down)

If you can afford it, buy a used arcade analog control stick, or buy a new one from happs.   Afterburners a game in which you probably will slam the stick arround often... and pc sticks arnt made very sturdy... and may break down in a short time.

Never actually used this myself, but I always thought this would be a good controller for AfterBurner

I was testing this game and found that using an analog flight stick with 2 fire buttons works well for the flight and fire control, and then a regular microswitch joystick on the left (you could use the Player 1 stick on a typical CP) for throttle up and down. Just set throttle Analog Increase/Decrease settings to be the up/down of that stick. Only problem with this is, then trottle is full on or full off, no smooth analog control. But it works. Also there is a dip switch setting in AfterBurnerII that allows you to completely disable the throttle (not sure if original AfterBurner has this setting or not though).

Eric.

Just get a pc analog stick with a throttle on it. I play it on my pc with my Logitech Wingman Digital Extreme (still analog, funny - huh) and it works great...

Yeah but those PC controllers ain't arcade controls. I want my controls to be able to withstand a herd of wild howler monkeys playing on my cab all day.

I've been wanting two arcade analog dual trigger sticks also.  I don't understand why they are so damned expensive at Happs.  I mean I could see $100 but $200??  Pots aren't that expensive are they?  The only other difference I could see is the handle assembly with two buttons, but they sell it separately for like $20.   Not much demand I guess. :-\
