Trying to mount T-Stik in a metal CP?
« on: December 02, 2005, 12:51:52 pm »
I want to install my T-Stiks in my CPs but I'm not sure what type of hardware to use.  I'm envisioning some sort of bolt with a semi-spherical head but I'm not sure what they are called or where to get them.  Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Yeah, thy're called carriage bolts...

You can get them at HD. I think 1/4" diameter should do it, but go in to Home Depot with the the mounting plate and get one that fits. In a metal panel, should not need anything more than 1/2" to 3/4"...

I painted the top of my bolts black with blak enamel pain you get from a hobby shop...

I've had trouble getting the correct sized carriage bolts at Home Depot in the past. When in doubt, you can order them online.

Thanks - I see that Happs carries these things but I would have no idea what size to get (also you have to order 100 of them)...

I looked at my website where I documented my build. From it I foiund this...

I used the 1/4" to cut the holes for the carriage bolts as I am using 1 and 1/2 inch 1/4 carriage bolts to mount the joystick to the CP.   (my CP was 3/4" MDF...).

i'm also looking for a black piano hionge but I can't find it anywhere.  I'm not sure how paint would adhere to that though with all the movement...

I had the same problem ... ended up buying brass (was on sale), then roughed it up a bit with with wire brush attachment on the dremel, wiped it down, then primed and finished with spray paint. I kept the coats very light and moved the hinge after each coat. No problems to date, but then I haven't opened any of those panels much.

Cheers.
