That's a great idea.  Where is the monitor going to be located?

I plan on having a hinged flip-up lid (not yet built) on the cabinet. The monitor will be underneath. I will likely have to put the monitor on some king of hinged platform as well in order to raise it up to eye level. It likely won't be easy.

Scylla2, I took interest in the photos on your web site. You are using the same LCD touch screen as I have been trying to use. You have said it is running well in the system. As I understand it the TouchTone Audio program will run at 600X800 but not 480X640. Is that right? I ask because I find the touch screen to be very unclear with characters chopped etc. when run at 600X800. It is really good at 480X640. How have you gotten around this problem?

As a matter of fact, I've been through numerous websites with custom cabinet hinges in a search of how to actually mount the 8" monitor under the cabinet lid. I've yet to find a practical solution, although the "middle shelf in chest" idea is one I haven't come across before. That might be worth investigating. The probelm is that the mechanism would have to hold up the heavy 3/4" plywood lid and would have to provide a solid backing for the monitor. This is a touchscreen monitor and you have to be able to push it with your fingers without worrying about the whole works coming crashing down. I would like the monitor to be more or less verticle (with a slight angle) when the lid is raised. I might simply have the monitor on a seperate hinged platform under the lid and raise it up manually. Perhaps the monitor platform could serve to lock the lid into an open position. It would be neat to have the monitor automatically lift up into position as the lid is raised but I don't really think that's a workable idea. These things I'll have to figure out as the project progresses.

As for the resolution on the touchscreen, regular Windows screen characters do indeed get very choppy at the 600x800 resolution, often to the point of being unreadable. Luckily for me, however, this problem does not seem to carry over into the TouchTone software. The characters in this program appear very crisp, even with the touchscreen at the higher resolution. Since the monitor will be used to run the Touchtone software 99% of the time I don't see this as a big worry. Anyone thinking of buying this screen to run regular Windows software had better do some research first, however.

Here's some more progress. Wood-filling, veneer, sanding, and staining all complete. Still some more trim to install and, of course, much varathane ahead. I'm going back to my real job for a few days. Hopefully the next pic will be of a more-or-less complete project.

Great to see the progress.  It looks like you're going to have a real "living room friendly" jukebox when you're done.  Great job on the trim and the various shades of stains you're using.
