Free Play configuration
« on: November 22, 2005, 10:44:10 am »
Not sure if this should go to the Software section or general enought for the Main forum.

Have any of you set up your cab so you can choose if the games are set to free play (if it has the option) or requires tokens?  If so, how do you do it?

not sure about the software side... but I put in a hidden credit switch for free play.  Works pretty great while preserving the look of my cab.

I use the default shift key function of the mini-pac (shift-B1/2 = P1/2 credits)

But I have kids over that I would end up hidding that feature and just want to set it to free play.  I'll end up mapping 2 unused keys to double up as P1/P2 credits in MAME and then also reprogram the shift key in mini-PAC to match.  That way, if I was to disable that feature, I can just use a different MAME configuration file.

With the method in my post, there are no configuration changes at all.  The coin switches wire to the same place as the newly added free credit switches.  There is also a master switch to turn the free credits on and off (cuts the ground).

I agree though...  keep the shift function away from the kids.   ;)
