I learned something interesting today
« on: November 21, 2005, 08:18:53 pm »
Apparently the laptop that's currently functioning as the brain of my mame has trouble pushing enough power through the USB port to my minipac, resulting in irritatingly intermittent behaviour. I thought for sure it was a damaged cable, but I was a little surprised to find that the minipac works consistantly when hooked up to a desktop. The solution: a powered USB hub. I don't know whether this has been brought up before, but I figured I'd post it here in the hope that anybody who encounters the same problem in the future would be able to find it in the search.

Would yours not save the settings you give it? That's what mine started doing, and I am running it off my laptop.

No, that's not the problem I've been having. Windows would simply tell me that I'd installed a defective USB device. The device drivers showed that the mouse and keyboard emu worked, but not the trackball. Wasn;t actually the case though. Nothing worked. I'd suggest you try programming the minipac on a desktop, just to make sure that your problem isn't power related. You never know.
