Updating Mame & Frontends?
« on: November 21, 2005, 01:54:48 am »
Hey guys-
I've been away from my machine for about a year. I'm running Mame32 0.82 Analog+, and I would like to update it. Is there a newer version available, and, where do I get it from?

Also- I would like a better front end for it- something that is nice looking, and I can easily select/deselect which games I want to show up in the front end. Can you guys suggest one, and where I would get it from?  It's just hard to remember everything since being out and away for soo long.
Thanks!

I second the suggestion of MameWAH.  It may be a tiny bit tricky to setup originally, but well worth the time.  Also, Minwah is super helpful with any troublems.

Hmmm- ok-

1) will Mamewah work on Analog+?

2) if I upgrade my Analog+, do I need to do anything with upgrading 'mame' from that other link you posted?  Or, do I only need to upgrade Analog+?

3) is there a place that posts any updates to games, or, any new games that came out? Or, will upgrading my Analog+ version to the latest one take care of that, or, do I need to find the updated games elsewhere?

THANKS!

1) I haven't had any experience with Analog+, but provideing that Analog+ doesn't have its own frontend Mamewah will work

2) You only need to upgrade Analog+ if your going to upgrade, i added the link to mame because it is more up to date than Analog+ (being that Analog+ is a made from mame it will be)

3) Whatsnew.txt should tell you what has been added since the previous version

will mamewah run in a completely DOS environment?  (by completely DOS I mean DOS installed via win98 install, but booting only to DOS via msdos.sys hack)

While on the subject of mamewah, you should go with mamewah 1.62 over at mameworld.net.  It is a lot different than 1.61, and is not on Minwah's site yet.  It will be eventually and is a sure replacement for 1.61.  Just a word for the wise if you're gonna be doing some legwork.
