A.  Why would I pay to play 300 games when Mame is free?
B.  Its only available in the US... I'm in Germany....  probably could use a proxy to get around that though
C.  Automatic renewal... no thanks
D.  The help function sucks already....  can't find what it does cost per month... nothing like hiding that info!

It's fairly hard to believe that the people at Gametap engineered their own emulation software for all the systems they support.  I'm not saying that they definitely are using mess/mame/other emulators, but I wonder...

How many times have we seen people trying to sell other people's work in this market?

My thoughts exactly!

Did all these companies license these games to them though?  ???

So, us BYOAC'ers are not the target market.  It seems like the people Gametap is targeting are the ones that DON'T know about emulation, or MAME (tm), or what a ROM is.

This is for the people that just want to download and play.

I wonder if he will try to Colorize PONG?  Like he did the WIZARD OF OZ??   :D

/offtopic/
Huh?!
You do know that the original movie starts B&W and then is in color. Always has been in color.

D'oh!  :D  By the smiley at the end, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he knew.

I was a little intrigued by their preview video, what with the inclusion of titles like Crazy Taxi - was wondering what kind of emulation they were using to make them playable.  Then I checked their list of titles, and was surprised to find that a lot of the games in the video aren't there.  Deceptive at best, false advertising at worst.  And quite a bummer.

My bad on the WIZARD of OZ.  :)

I'm probably wrong about GONE WITH THE WIND too!  ;)

Gone With the Wind was released in color. He colorized It's a Wonderful Life and The Maltese Falcon, which is just WRONG!

The Wizard of Oz was originally black and white.  If I am not mistaken they added the color to the movie a long time ago by hand painting each individual frame of the movie.

Sorry, but that is utter rubbish. The colour part of the movie was filmed in Technicolor, it's only the point of transition between black and white and Technicolor where it is "rumoured" that the frames were hand painted to effect a seamless transition between the two film types.

I thought in 1939 they didn't have color yet?

This was all explained by Calvin's (of Calvin and Hobbes fame) Dad:

C: Dad, how come old photographs are always black and white? Didn't they
have color film back then?
D: Sure they did. In fact, those old photographs ARE in color. It's just the
WORLD was black and white then.

C: Really?
D: Yep. The world didn't turn color until sometime in the 1930s, and it was
pretty grainy color for a while, too.

C: That's really weird.
D: Well, truth is stranger than fiction.

C: But then why are old PAINTINGS in color?! If the world was black and
white, wouldn't artists have painted it that way?
D: Not necessarily. A lot of great artists were insane.

C: But... but how could they have painted in color anyway? Wouldn't their
paints have been shades of gray back then?
D: Of course, but they turned colors like everything else in the '30s.

C: So why didn't old black and white photos turn color too?
D: Because they were color pictures of black and white, remember?
