Furry cabinet
« on: November 18, 2005, 11:02:12 pm »
Just wondering.  IF I were to cover my cabinet in faux fur instead of more traditional coverings, and call it something like "Pimp Panther" or "Pimp Rig", would I have to change my nickname in shame?

I too, once had a grand scheme of making a furry cabinet.  My plan was to use a shag carpet or something similar.

It was to be black whith a large smiley face in the usual sideart position as big as I could fit it.  Finding bright yellow shag carpet turned out to be a bit tricky and I eventually gave up and moved on to other ideas.  Probably a good idea too since it would raise the cost of a cab significantly for an effect that I wasn't quite sure would be all that great in the first place.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Don't let the naysayers discourage you... I love it. You could really run with the idea in a lot of ways. 8-ball for a trackball, and of course you gotta have some fuzzy dice hanging somewhere. Maybe have it play "Lowrider" in attract mode. I'd love to see it. :)

Sensational idea. Right up there with an Astro Turf covered cab.

For extra points may I suggest instead of synthetic fur you use the fur from baby seals? Of course to cover an entire cab you would have to violently club several of them but this is really just an added bonus.

Funny you should mention that.  My driving cab plan calls for crushed velvet, a chrome chain steering wheel, reflective diamond tape, beaded ball trim, and of course the fuzzy dice and an 8 track player.  If I had the wherewithall, I'd put the whole thing on hydraulics.  But that's the next project.

And to think - people have actually criticized my faux paint finish.  ;D

Actually, I think it's a rather innovative idea.  If I'd have done mine like that, I wouldn't have to be worried with my cats using the thing as a cat perch!!  No fuzz issues - just make it the color of their fur and everything blends in!

I've been watching this thread with interest and for what it's worth I hope to see you build your furry cabinet. I think it would look awesome if done right. Perhaps you could style it like the pimpmobile in Austin Powers Goldmember!

Wasn't planning on a hat as part of the cabinet, but will be making one with the leftover material.  Want to play my cab?  Then put on the hat.  Comes complete with a really cool necklace.

I'll start posting on Project Announcements soon.

BUT...

Should it be renamed L.A.M.E. (Lame Ain't a MAME Experiment)?

(Actually, it really is.)

Or maybe L.A.M.E. (Lame Ain't a Mainstream Emulator)?

If Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill (ZZ Top for you young whippersnappers) can cover their guitars with fun fur, I see no reason a Mamecab couldn't get the same treatment.  As long as it's tasteful...    ;-)

Well,
Having seen the end of the rain around here, I can get back to building my proof of concept cab.  I'll start posting pics in the very near future.  For a teaser, here is a piece of artwork in progress that will be on at least one side of the cabinet.  Of course, it's also going to be surrounded by some very nice fur.

I still say cat. Or guinea pig (aka qui).

You really need to use powerpame and when it is paused it will talk about the game you are playing. You need to then find a voice that has a pimp tone to it. I highly suggest something like the Gary Oldman caractor Drexl in True Romance.

If I was to build a second cabinet I was thinking I would put lexan on the sides and light it up a la Build You Own Disco Dance Floor.

I have changed my nickname to "Cakemeister". Please do not PM the Buddabing account because I do not check it anymore.
