Problem with Dual GonCon2 Light Guns in MAME
« on: November 18, 2005, 07:09:42 pm »
I am currently running MAME v0.79 on a Windows XP Pro machine.  I have purchased two GunCon2 Light Guns which I have connected to my computer and I am using the WinGUN driver for my computer to recognize the guns.  My computer recognizes the light guns and i have been able to calibrate them using the WinGun utility.  Player 1's light gun works flawlessly inside of MAME, but Player 2's light gun does not really work.  I can pull the trigger on it, and the shot will be registered on the screen, but it is ALWAYS registered at the center of the screen.  It does not matter where I am pointing Player 2's gun.  Here is are my input settings from my mame.ini file:

### Input device options ###
mouse                   0
joystick                0
lightgun                1
dual_lightgun           0
offscreen_reload        0
steadykey               0
keyboard_leds           1
led_mode                ps/2
a2d_deadzone            0.300000
# ctrlr                 <NULL> (not set)

please note that I have tried setting dual_lightgun to 0 and 1, both do work (setting it to 1 is actually worse, then the shot from Player 2's gun is not even registered).

I have also tried this with the MAME v0.102 and MAME Analog + v0.79.1.  Neither of these versions helped this particular problem.  I know that multiple GunCon guns are supported via this driver.  I also have read through these forums that most people switch try switching to a different version of MAME (like MAME Analog +).  I'm just having no luck.

Has someone else experienced this problem and found a solution?  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might remedy this problem?  All help is greatly appreciated.

BTW, I couldn't have built my Arcade machine if it wasn't for this site.  Thank you all around!

I have figured out my problem.  When I tried using MAME v0.102 I never created a new mame.ini file for it using mame -cc.  Becuase of this, I missed out on setting some important configurations inside of it (namely setting lightgun_device to mouse).  Here is the copy of my input section of my NEW mame.ini file.

### Input device options ###
mouse                   0
joystick                0
lightgun                1
dual_lightgun           1
offscreen_reload        0
steadykey               0
keyboard_leds           1
led_mode                ps/2
a2d_deadzone            0.300000
# ctrlr                 <NULL> (not set)
paddle_device           keyboard
adstick_device          keyboard
pedal_device            keyboard
dial_device             keyboard
trackball_device        keyboard
lightgun_device         mouse
digital                 none

For anyone else that has experienced this problem with an earlier version mame, when you change to a later version be sure to also setup the games controls by pressing 'Tab' while mame is running, then selecting 'Input(For this Game)' and then setting "Analog Lightgun X/Y" for all players to "Lightgun1X/Y".

Just out of curiosity, is this on a computer monitor or a TV?

You think this would solve the dual ActLab gun problems that people have as well?

I want to get two of the new Act-Labs guns for my yet to be built cabinet and am trying to figure out if it will work.  (I don't want to spend the money if I don't think I will ever be able to make it work).
