Trouble loading Rampage
« on: November 17, 2005, 06:39:38 pm »
Having a hard time here. Wife wanted to see the game Rampage (the original) so I go to load it up and I can't. Screen flashes very quickly and comes back to windows. I'm not having a problem with any other rom and the rom checks passes an audit in Mame32.

Any suggestions? I tried adjusting resolutions/refresh rates thinking that was a problem, but I got nowhere. I typically lock in all resolutions to 1024 and all refresh to 60 hz. This is on a WinXP box running Mame32 v99.

Still doing some checking of my own. I can't get it to run in Mame32 (.55) on my old Win98 box either. With that machine, it's locking up the monitor, reassuring me that it's a resolution/refresh problem. However, I pulled up an old version of DOS Mame (.66) on that computer and it works fine.

I've now installed .62 Mame32 on the WinXP box to check if it is that box/drivers and Rampage works fine on that box. Tried the same settings (default) on Mame v99 and still no luck.

I reloaded a new copy of Mame99 with default options set. Game would load to the 'type OK' screen and then wouldn't run.

The same thing that was happening before (I had the warnings turned off on the other install).

Odd. I can't seem to find an update rom for that particular game the way others have had. I don't know of anything that changed in the rampage.zip rom prior to .99

It gets weirder still. I thought that since it worked so well in past versions of Mame32, I'd try the newest version.

D'led v.102 and it works. Same rom file.

Quite odd. Is it possible that it just doesn't work in .99 for some reason?

My MAME32 0.97 runs Original Rampage.
