Hydro Thunder Issue
« on: November 16, 2005, 11:25:20 am »
First off, I apologize if this is in the wrong forum.  That being said...

I was recently offered a hydro thunder cab.  I don't know if you all remember this one but it's a pretty big cab with seat.  This thing is not an easy move, but the price is right...free.  Anyway, here is the problem with it.  It seems to boot fine but once running the monitor will turn itself off (maybe 20 minutes) not long after the sound will die as well (maybe 5 minutes after the monitor dies).  Now the sound might just be the machine resetting itself or something, sense you don't have visual it's hard to tell.  The issues may be related, or then again, maybe not.  The problem is that I have yet to see the machine, but I do know it was purchased new and hasn't seen a public arcade in it's life.

So the question is basically if I should even bother hauling this thing back to explore further.  I have room, and I can always use parts, but the machine is more than 2 hours away and might be a real pain to haul.  Would you go for it?  Anyone care to take a stab at trouble shooting?

Sounds like a fun project if nothing else.  If I had the room, and it was free.  You darn right I would take it.  If nothing else, you could always turn it into a sweet sit down mame cab :).

I would seriously contemplate MURDER for a free HT cab! I finished my 2nd upright earlier this summer, and have been toying the idea around for a dedicated racing cab as my next project. The HT or NFS cabs are almost perfect (NFS being the better of the 2 simply because it has a 6 spd shifter already in place).

Good luck with it man!

Hell yeah get it, Hydro Thunder is cool, and we can definitely help you get it running again.

Almost sounds to me like overheating power supply.

Bring it home clean her all out, give her a nice wash, give the power supply a nice cleaning to see if thats the problem.

You fix this machine, you could probably get some decent coin if you sold it.

I also think its a power issue.  Whenever you have the same problem with multiple places... try and see what is used by both.

And since it works for a bit... then stops over time... heat is usually the issue.

Ways to test... fast easy without work.  Open up the cab and run it open.  But put one of those giant room fans blowing into it.

If it seems to work forever... Then its time to clean things up... check the fans... ect...  Also buying a new power supply might not be a bad thing either way...  heck for what you put into it seems worth it to me.

Thanks a ton for the replys guys.  I'm gonna go for it.  I would imagine you will be hearing more about it in the near future.

I was kind of thinking that it was a power issue as well.  I'll let you all know.

for the record, where are you located?

Maybe one of us can pop over and take a look... and then of course, be allowed to play a while.   :)

They have a Hydro Thunder at a local Chuck E Cheese for only one token, sometimes I pop in there just to play that one game.

Whelp Im in St. Louis, but I was wrong about the location of the machine, it's not where I thought it was it's actually in N. Arkansas, which turns my 2 hour haul into a 4.5 hour haul, but I'm still gonna go for it.

Once I get this gem a float (get it) I'll be sure to let you all know so you can come by, just don't forget your quarters ; )

Speaking of location, is anyone attending the auction in Jeff City MO this weekend?
