Saw what appeared to be "Arcade Legends" at Costco...
« on: November 16, 2005, 10:07:16 am »
I must admit, it appeared to be way way way smaller than I had expected.  It does not look like "Arcade Legends" that I've seen on various sites... as a matter of fact I don't even recall the "Arcade Legends" label on the side... it just resembled it in shape and color/artwork.

Tiny tiny screen, and it was even up on a crate to give it more height.

I'm not sure the $1999.00 Costco version of this thing is the traditional Arcade Legends machine.  However I could be wrong.

Anyway... not impressed.

I did not see the cocktail version @ the store... only an upright.  It appeared to be more related (size & build) to the "Midway Cabinet" style sold @ Target, probably with better guts.

I've played the Ultracade and Arcade Legends to see what they're about.  The funny thing is the Arcade Legends (cheaper) machine actually works better than the more expensive Ultracade.  The Ultracade Front End is a mess, but the Arcade Legends front end is the nicest I've seen.

Either way, I'm not buying one nor am I going to put any money in one.  I played both at two different flat fee arcades.

Oh... to be perfectly clear I share that sentiment too....  I just was not impressed at all... I had never seen any of the products in real life and was expecting something else.

I'm glad I built my own... mine looks/feels like it could withstand Armageddon compared to what I saw at Costco.

I saw the same thing at Costco for $1999 and was not impressed. It was way too small, tiny screen at an odd angle and it looked and felt really cheap. The cabinet actually felt like molded plastic rather than wood.
Had something like 80 games on it and was upgradeable to around 200.

Yuck...no thanks  ::)

Costco ups a price a maximum 11% (which only can be compared to wal-mart) of what they pay initially for it. The high price is thanks to Mr. Foley.

Yeah I know.  I like CostCo.  I should have clarified:  the price for what the 200 games would cost = Big $$$$$.  Especially when you start $2k down.

23 game pack = $800  :o

3 game pack (yes... three) = $800  :o

20 game pack = $600

Even the 50 game pack = $400 and is filled with "bloat titles" that would never be played more than twice.

etc, etc.

Compared to www.starroms.com where you can buy all their titles for less than a single game pack.  Plus you wouldn't be working on proprietary hardware.  Much better way to go.

Just noticed a choice thread on their forums too:

It's a must read at so many levels...

LMAO

I like this one too:

I just saw this monster @ Costco.
When I first saw it, I thought to myself..."Not THAT bad".
BUT when I saw the $2000 sticker price, I almost died on the stop.
OMFG...Give any of us here half that and we'll make the same thing.
And have a few hundred left over as tip.

Kinda OT, but I saw a pic I think in rolling stone of Carmen Electra's house and it was this really hip decorated place, then ick a big hideous blue and white ultracade sitting in the corner

I went to this place called Aminis in St. Louis a few days ago.... big gigantic gameroom store. Mostly pooltables and bars... but a few games and pins as well. Most of the pins were from $5k to $7k and at least 3 of them had "sold" tags on them. All of the video games were at least $2500-$5000. The quasicade was $1999... but I think those are lame, even though they're pretty solid.

I would like to have one of the UltraCade cabaret's for home though.  It's pretty cool if you ask me.

So take one home from work.  You make them.
