Euro-Stik Mounting?
« on: November 15, 2005, 05:43:53 pm »
I searched, but didn't find anything on this.

What is the best method of mounting a Suzo Euro-Stik? I have 4 of them I'm putting into a new control panel and want to have them flushmount, so I'm guessing I'll need some sort of mounting plate. Will a trackball plate work? Any other suggestions?

Here are a couple sketchs I made of the joystick:
- Side View
- Top View

These appear to be almost the same thing as the Omni-Stik and I'm thinking they should be mounted the same. With some sort of mounting plate as they need to be flush mounted like a trackball. I'm thinking that maybe a mounting plate for a 2 /14" trackball might work to make the top of the CP flush with the joystick, and I could then just attach the joystick to the under side of the CP using some brackets and bolts.

Any other ideas?

Can someone who has these installed show me some pics of theirs?

They are exactly the same as Omni-Stiks.

Are you mounting them into a wood CP? Normally you just route out the top and drop them in. You'll have to cover your CP with plexi afterwards or use filler to make the top smooth.

Groovygamegear.com sells a metal mounting plate for them if that's what you really want. You may have to e-mail them directly to purchase it.

Knievel,

I didn't realize these were the sticks you had in your CP. The pic you have posted here, helps to see how you have it mounted. So did you just route out a hole deep enough for the outer edge of the joystick? Or did you cut the hole clean through and then attach brackets to the bottom side to keep it in place?

Any chance you could take a detailed pic of the underside of the joystick?

Thanks!

Brian.

Also what size MDF did you use for your CP? Is that 3/4" or ??

I always use 3/4" MDF. You'll definitely want 3/4" for those sticks, you have to remove a fair amount of material to get them flush with the CP top.

I'll try and take a pic from underneath for you.

I ended up using two pieces of 1/2" MDF instead of one piece of 3/4". I cut the top piece the full size of the joystick base and then cut the bottom to only allow the center section through. I then used a few washers as spacers. This seems to work out perfect for mounting. A little more work, but it's turning out nice. Thanks for your help!
