Wanted: Empty cab to buy or borrow

I need to see if I can fit a standard size cabinet down my basement steps. Does anyone have a 19" monitor cab, empty, that I can either borrow or buy, so I can see if I can fit in down the stairs. I know not all are the same size, but if someone has a centipede, or pacman, or even a crappy JAMMA cab, empty, thanks

My best advice is to build a mock-up out of cardboard -- the measurements for a bunch of 19" cabs are available at jakobud's site and will be easier to work the details of any turns you have to make. And it won't mark-up your walls.

I'm not sure that I would expect too many people to lend you a classic cabinet that could apparently get jammed in your stairway.

How am I gonna get it on your ship?  Are you going to beam it up?  Couldn't you just beam it into the basement?   Where is your ship located?  Do you really want to borrow a heavy cabinet to see if the dimensions fit?  So many questions, so few answers(i.e. where you're located maybe?).

You're not going to be twisting and bending the cardboard mockup (and, really, it isn't hard to build a mockup that is sufficiently rigid)  -- if it is that tight, then you need to start being specific about the size and shape -- just testing any cab with a 19" monitor wouldn't be good enough (e.g. my Asteroids was harder to move in than my 25" MVS cabinet).

Sorry to leave a bad reply.  I think unproductive replies are unnecessary in the BST forum.  Just thought it was an odd request without any info.  I agree about the cardboard box idea to save money.  You could buy boxes from staples or some other shipping place and spend less then ten dollars.  Of course replicating the weight would be hard, but using cardboard, you could make an object larger than what you actually need and it would be easy to maneuver.  So again, sorry for the reply, it was meant to be funny.

Do you have a washer and dryer in your basement?

Measure their footprint.  If the cabinet footprint is smaller, then it will fit.  A cabinet is no taller than a person, so if you can walk down the stairs without ducking then the cabinet will fit.  If you have to duck on your stairs, put the cabinet on a dolly and tilt it back and it will fit.

I've moved several friends and worked for a moving company.  You don't have to stard worrying about fitting something down the stairs until it's dimensions are significantly larger than the volume a person takes up.

There are a few exceptions.  Extremely old houses, servant stairs,  bla bla bla.   but generally your average set of stairs will take quite a large piece of equipment.

moving washing machines is the damn worst.  If there's a washer in your basement, I wouldn't even worry.

I've got a 19" cab (it's a Reactor cab, so it's a it shorter than a "standard" cab) I'm selling.  I'm near DC, so it'd be a day trip to come down and get it, but it's got a good small footrpint (30"x30", IIRC)

If you can get a fridge downstairs then its safe to say you can get a dynamo cab down your stairs... measure the biggest appliance/furnitutre you got down the stairs and compare the measurements to an arcade machines measurements.

I just bought a new washing machine, double the capacity of my old one and it was just about half of the weight.  It's the old ones you have to worry about.  Technology is an amazing thing!
