Analog Joystick for Xbox CP
« on: November 14, 2005, 12:03:58 pm »
I have been looking toying with the idea of building a machine driven with the Xbox.  I have not found analog joysticks that I like, or that I know work with the Xbox.  I was in the Billard Factory last week, and noticed they had some arcade machines.  They were selling and ArcadePC machine and next to it they had an Xbox and a PlayStation arcade box.  Both had analog controls on the CP that I really liked.  I figured I could find them on the net, but I have had no luck.

The stick's base was a blue cone about 2.5 - 3 inches wide with a metal ball in the middle.  From the metal ball was a metal shaft with a small blue head on it.  You could move the stick in all directions and it worked well with the games.

Does anyone have any clue to what stick I am referring too, or have any suggestions?

I am going to go back and try to find what kind they are, but at first look I couldn't tell.

You are right, I did more searching and found an auction on eBay for one of their cabinets.  Teh top is orange not blue.  Anyone know where I can buy them seperatly, and how to connect them to a PC/Xbox.  I guessing that the iPac doesn't control them yet, but I am off to check.

I saw some on eBay for 250 (Buy Now Price).  I was hoping I could build my own, but it looks like it just might be a good idea to buy one and rebuild a CP using these parts.... and adding a track ball.  Thanks for your help KDOG.

Anyone have any experience with this CP?  I think I might have to get one.

Sadly for us, Quasicade has those sticks special made just for them.  Ditto for their analog buttons.  They won't sell just sticks or buttons either.  You have to buy the whole darn control panel.

Shame, but the analog sticks do look pretty gay IMO  :P

they are also 10k pots.  So they arent' the same as most true arcade analog sticks... but who cares when they have their own encoder.

I'm more annoyed that they don't sell their analog buttons.  I think they would be SWEET for pinball buttons on the side.  Most pc pinball games don't handle analog buttons though... but some do.  I'm sure we would find some other games that analog buttons would be cool for.

Maybe MAME could handle the original Street Fighters pressure sensitive buttons...

Well, I am going to get a Control Panel and I might have to rebuild with their parts because I want my track ball... but I might just have two changeable CP's.  I'll post my thoughts about the product when I use it more.
