New Wireless Namco/Jakks 7in1 Ms. Pac etc
« on: November 13, 2005, 01:57:32 pm »
I saw one of these at WalMart yesterday.

Code: [Select]
Ms. Pac-Man, Pole Position, Xevious, Rally X, Bosconioan, Galaga and Mappy.

The newly designed joystick features twist control steering for Pole Position, 8-way steering for Bosconian and a 4-way notch plate feature in Ms. Pac-Man for more precise control.

It's a good thing that they redesigned the joystick in the new version.

I used to work at Toys R Us and we demoed the older one. Ms. Pacman was all but unplayable because the joystick was so shoddy. Up and down rarely worked, even right out of the box. Also, they didn't do a whole lot as far as informing the customer that you actually had to "Twist" the joystick in order to steer in Pole Position. We still sold thousands of them though.

Also, I have witnessed expensive TVs being ruined because someone tripped over the AV cables on the older "wired" version, breaking off the AV inputs on the TV.

OUCH

Wireless is good, even if it is piss poor wireless.  ;D

I saw some of those at walmart yesterday as well. They will probably be a hot xmas item. I couldn't justify buying one (I tried hard). I have better versions on real cabs.

It looks cool and I'll probably buy one once the price drops. I can't really justify it either but what the hell. :)

They seem to have learnt from some of the mistakes they made with the earlier designs. I'm particularly intrigued to see how the 4/8 way switchable joystick works. But it's a shame that once again they've put the fire button on the wrong side of the joystick. >:(

Where are you guys from? We have had those for a really long time on the east coast. (New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Boston).

I saw some of these TV games now with a "game key" (cartridge) feature.  They had like 5 games and you could add two more with the "game key".  Can remember what games they were tho... HEH

that's been around for awhile.  The bad thing about it is it takes 8 AAs.

This is why wireless is pointless IMO.  Who cares about having a TV lead plugged in...except those people who can't help tripping over the wires of course  :P ;)

FWIW, even the first version models require batteries, unless you're fortunate enough to have purchased the adapter for them.
