Beer spill, buttons sticking...
« on: November 13, 2005, 12:54:21 pm »
Man, i'm not real happy about this, but i'm going to try and put that aside so i can fix the problem.

I had a few friends over last night and we were playing my cab.  I have a rule plastered everywhere that beers aren't allowed on or near the control panel.  That didn't stop one of my friends from still somehow spilling beer.

We wiped it up with a towel ASAP and continued playing, but this morning the buttons at that station are sticking.   >:(

Can you all recommend the best way to clean the buttons so i can remedy this and forget that it even happened?  I was thinking of soap and water on a damp rag without removing the buttons from the CP (just to see what happens).

Anyone have better ideas?  Suggestions are welcome!

I know you don't want to hear this, but you should take the buttons out of the CP and wash the plastic parts.  I've had to do it before with my Pacman cab.

if you want them clean and not sticking you HAVE to take the buttons out of the CP. there is no way around it.  The beer got caught between the plunger and the base of the buttons and the only way to clean it is to disassemble the button.  It's also likely that the spring got sticky as well.

If you have plexi/art on your CP, check it, you may have ruined your art as well.

Smack the #^$* out of your friend.

Take buttons apart, stick em in warm water (or even the dishwasher!) Just wash springs manually and dry em right so they dont rust.
NO MORE!!

Beer spill..... NOOOOOOOOOO.

I can't decide what's worse, the spilled beer or the soiled cab.

I suppose it's an inevitable hazard we all should be prepared for.

Has anyone really put their pushbuttons throught the dishwasher before?

Yup, no choice, take them out and clean them.   What kind of beer?  :)

Ah, beer....for how many times we have been drinking and playing mame, we never spilled our drinks--yet.  Can I suggest some cup holders on the side?  I made some up for 2 drinks on each side and believe it or not, my friends pretty much use them.  The cup holders do come in handy when it is your turn and you need some place to put your drink!

Next time have them drink pure alcohol, it won't stick.  They might go blind or drop over dead but oh well.

....

Yea, need to take them out and use warm water to wash em.

Hehe, yep I second that suggestion.  Fold-up cup holders on the sides.  They also double as great lightgun holsters.  :)

That's nothing, it happens all the time. Buttons are easy to clean. What I hate are those sticky drinks spilled on juke box remotes. Some of those bar drinks are the worst! I had to pry a Mega-Touch off of a bar one time. I was swapping it out and I was lifting, and heaving, and cursing but it just wouldn't let loose. The formica was starting to pull up! I borrowed a prybar from a customer at the location and had to pry the thing off the bar! It didn't come up clean either. Some of the rubber on the bottom of the lazy Susan was stuck to the bar when the thing finally let loose. Pinball lock bars are another good example of why bar glue is potent stuff!
