Cab Speaker Dilemma
« on: November 11, 2005, 12:16:36 pm »
I have the cab built and I am pretty much at a crosspoint as to what speakers to use in my cab. I've been reading and I think someone mentioned they weren't pleased with the Happ speaker/amp combo. Well I'm not a big fan of the amp price right off so...

Do I go with an amplified sound card or try and find a set of amplified speakers that can run off a regular sound card?

I want to run a subwoofer with the two above the monitor but am limited to space on the speaker panel (4.5" tops)

Any good reasonably priced (around $50 or <) speaker suggestions?

You can get good deals on 2.1 computer speaker setups.  Just look for a size for the L/R speakers that will suit your cab.  Usually the cheapest way to go.  Look at the flat panel L/R speakers if you really want a small form factor.

Dumb question, but when you say use flat panel speakers, does this mean I will remove them from the enclosures they are housed in?

Flat panel type usually only need their bases removed.  The rest of the assembly is a flat piece about an inch thick.
