Sit Down/Driving Cabinet Ideas
« on: November 10, 2005, 10:50:25 pm »
I am currently starting work on my second cabinet as I gave my first cabinet to a family member.

What I want to do is foremost have a sit down driving cabinet. I then want the cabinet to convert to a regular cabinet so my friends and I can play.  I don't see the need for two cabinets when 1 will do.  I have been looking for examples of already built cabinets but have not found one that will do.

Does anyone have any pictures or a website with a cabinet like this OR does anyone have any ideas of how I can get this to work?

I've been looking into a driving cab for a while too but I don't have the room.  Driving cabinets usually disconnect b/t the front cabinet and the seat part.  Picture a regular upright cab (about 18" shorter) and simply put a seat in front of it.  Make it so you can remove the seat and stand in front of it to be able to play it like that - height adjustments may be necessary.  Grab a passenger seat from a descent car from the junkyard - along with the adjusting rails - and build around it.

I also thought about making one but for podracer.  Ascar9 is right find a car seat.  have the seat part lock onto the cab and have a detachable cp if you want different controls.  also are you using a console or pc?  i found this pdf on how to make your own pc controls and it showed how to build pedals though only in the basic of ways.

Cruisin' Usa/World/Exotica Cabs are sweet. If you can find a gutted one.

That would be a great Driving Cab! Might be a tad big/wide.

 A fun little challenge :)

Heres a proto sketch.    Needs a system to assit rise and lower (and lock in place).. unless you just have two people to do it.    Not to scale either.. but concept just might work well.

Thanks for the great ideas.  I had never thought of putting the contol panel on the back of the seat.  That's a great idea and may be what I go with.

More suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is the reason why I love BYOAC.  You all ROCK!
