Happ 3" Trackball adjustment?
« on: November 10, 2005, 09:51:30 pm »
Greetings, all.

I have a Happ 3" USB trackball with a bit of a problem - I can't get it to track straight.  When I push straight forward on it (like driving on a Golden Tee machine) and let go, the cursor goes to the top of the screen and slowly slides to the left side of the screen (so every shot is weak and offline, just like my real golf game lol).  Almost feels like something is rubbing or misaligned inside the plastic housing - it gets worse if I have it bolted to the mounting plate with the reinforcing plate strapped across the bottom.  I bought it new last year, and finally am just getting around to trying to use it, and it doesn't appear to be abused or anything.  I tried taking out the rollers and swapping them, but the problem remains.  Has anybody had a similar problem with a Happ or have any ideas how to correct this?  Is there any kind of adjustment on these (maybe shimming under one end of the roller bearings to realign it against the ball)? The bearings seem to spin freely so I'm not thinking they're the problem (but I could be mistaken).

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions on this - I just gotta get Golden Tee Golf working lol...

Is the trackball mounted level?  I actually had this problem when I was testing out the trackball but I had the CP sort of wedged up at an angle while I was testing it.  Couldnt figure it out but was having a few friends over to mess with the arcade.  When I mounted it (my CP sits flat) and tried the trackball it worked perfect.

Not sure if this is your issue and Ive never seen it mentioned on these forums from all the people that have angled control panels so I never mentioned it.

If your trackball is new, it may just need to be worked in.  Apearantly the bearings quiet down and roll better with some serious use.

Also, if you bought it new, keep an eye on that warning sticker that says, "do new over tighten screws"

You said it's worse when it's mounted.  Apearantly you can deform the housing by cranking down on some of the mounting screws.
