You don't.

I could be wrong but you can only do that if your motherboard manufacturer has built in the ability to do so. Otherwise, just set up your cabinet to power on the monitor about 15 secs after the computer starts.

A complicated remedy involving timers and relays.

And why bother?  I was of the mind for a while to do the same thing, but a lot of recent machines actually run off x86 architechture.  BIOS screens are normal for their boot sequence.  Once they're passed, it's nothing big.

These questions are almost unanswerable because its different for every single motherboard, its even different amongst the same manufacture, unless its in your manufacturers bios options its not possible, some boards like ASUS give you a skin option, otherwise the start-up screen logo is flashed onto the bios.

Some PCs lock the bios with a jumper on the MBoard.  You need to move this jumper to the other position to get rid of the splash and allow access to the BIOS.  Mainly on packaged PCs whos manufacturers do not want customers changing BIOS settings.  With the jumper in the lock position none of the normal keyboard sequences will bring up the BIOS.

You could choose the easy route, and just put in a seperate switch for the monitor... turn it on yourself a few minutes after powering up the rest of your cab. I did  this and I love it... mainly because the computer can run constantly, while I can just turn on and off the monitor / audio, etc.

JCrouse used a solid state timer.  It can delay start up by up to a minute, but there are many to choose from.  I believe he said his ran around $45.  Here is a link to a catalog that has them:

http://www.mouser.com/catalog/623/1247.pdf

As far as getting rid of the splash screen, check out the BYOAC book.  I just read over that section.

One thing you can do is remove all the status screens and set it to "quick boot" - these are all different per bios, however most have the option to do so. Most likely you will never completely get rid of the bios screen.

Just leave the machine running all the time!

Install an old pci slot graphics card. Make sure you dont plug your monitor into it though. Setup in your bios to boot from the pci. When your machine boots it will send its video signal to the pci, which has nothing plugged into it, thusly(is that a word) giving you a black screen. when your OS boots it should load the drivers for your AGP or onboard graphics card. presto.

There is a power strip that will only turn on other items after the USB makes a connection.    It was pretty cheap if I remember right.

Anyway, search around for smart power strips.  There are two types and you want the other one...

I just use the mobo's power button to bring the system in and out of standby instead. Less time to the front end, and no bios.

Yeah, I just leave the PC powered on....

The switch on the back controls the TV and the powered speakers....so when it's "off" it's really just monitor and sound off....

I guess some people don't like to leave their PCs on, but let's see....I have 10 running all the time.... ;D

and no, my electric bill doesn't change if I turn them all off....

Wave your arms around and fake a stroke until the BIOS screen passes. i.e., distract your visitors during boot. It's a cheap hack I guess.  :D

I would recommend to turn off your PC and just live with the bios screen.  It's a small sacrifice, you don't want to unnecessarily run your PS if your not at home.

The Mini Power Minder
http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/6ee4/

So you turn on your computer... Then the power minder will not turn on until after your USB connects.  I believe this is when your LED comes on your mouse but I don't know for sure.

Anyway, cool item... I've been meaning to buy one for ages.

concur with this.  I haven't done it yet, but seems the easiest option that people have recommended.  You can get an old graphics card super cheap if you don't have one lying around in an old pc anyways.

No special programs needed and cheap.

I touched on this very briefly in the "Blinky lights" thread.

You could use the GGG LED-Wiz (now in public Beta) to control the power to the monitor or to switch the 3 video signals.

You would just need a 5v relay, or in the case of the 3 video signals, a cheap analog switch chip.

You would then only need to send the right command to the LED-Wiz to turn those outputs on just before your front end loads.

And think of all the cool stuff you could do with the other ~30 outputs ;)
