HELP - NBA Jam Cabinet - Removing Control Panel Possible?
« on: October 30, 2005, 10:35:00 pm »
Help!

I'm contimplating purchasing an NBA Jam Cabinet off eBay, and was wondering if there was any easy way to remove the control panel?!?!

2 reasons ...

1. not sure it will fit down my basement the way it is ... and ...
2. would like to remove the control panel and put in my own custon for a possible MAME conversion.

I guess I was wondering if it "easily" came off so I'd just have the rectangular arcade box ... or so that I could swap the control panels every now and again between MAME and the PCB NBA Jam?!?!

Any ideas / Help?  Please?

thanks for the info ... so the three latches will allow me to open it up to get underneath the panel - incase I wanted to change out the joysticks, buttons, etc right? ...

I guess that 'should' let me get inside to see if I can take out the control panel.

I guess if I wanted to do a conversion - I'd really want to just use the same cabinet ... so this should make it pretty easy ....................

I have a NBA Jam TE. There are four bolts I believe holding it down. I live in an apartmnet and had to take it off to fit inside the door. My controls are attached with quick connects. If you wanted to use the control panel for mame as well as the NBA jam PCB you may have to do a little rewiring. You could have a molex connecter that allows you to switch from Mame to PCB.

I don't know too much about wiring ... is there anywhere I could get more infomration on using a molex connector?  perhaps a site with some pictures / step by step instructions?

If you open the door on the front, you will see that there are four bolts on the underside of the control panel. (14mm from memory). If you undo those they panel lifts off and will rotate around enough to get it through as door without undoing any wiring. You just need some help to hold the panel while one person moves the cabinet.

Likely there are just connectors in there that allow the controls to just detach.  Once you get it open, you'll slap your forehead and say "of course!  It's so simple."
