The Jehovah's Witnesses knock on my door once in a while.  They chat a minute, give me a magazine, and leave.

Chasing them away with threats is even more ignorant than their not studying anything other than their own religion.  Have a little respect for someone who thinks they are doing a positive thing.

Sould have added, only use the cop thing if they refuse to leave after being told politely about 20 times to leave. But I agree with the above.

My parents became friends with a husband & wife mormon couple. My old-man made it clear from the beginning that we did not want to be converted, just friends in the normal sense. They had absolutely no problem with it, although we did have theological discussions a few times. Never anything heated.

The clown suit thing we never tried as we don't know where to obtain one.

You shoulda chased them off. They knocked on my door once. I told them that I'm not buying what they're selling, I also told them that I was just about to walk the dogs (who were snarling and barking, and generally looking like a pack of rabid dingos) and it would probably be a good idea for them to be gone when the gate opens.

I politlely make eye contact and state that I am not interested. Then I close the door, whether or not they persist.   It works very well actually.

Is this just if they are religious?  What if they are tree huggers trying to stop some cool incinerator built and need your Mr C signature?   

One time when I was young, at spring break in Daytona, I was in the back of my open top jeep.  We were driving on the beach..  A guy and two girls asked for a ride, I offered, within 2 minutes they were preaching the gospel.  I considered this an interruption of my drinking and carousing, and told them that since I worship the devil, they need to get out.  They did.

I close the door in Jehova's face too.  I hate to be bothered.  Unless its the pizza guy, and I'm expecting him.

I have a lot more patience when it is a potentially worthy cause like a public interest research group or something.  I give them a minute or so to speak and see if they can get my attention, if they can't then I give the 'not interested. 

What if it's The Arnold Schwarzenegger Youth group trying to get out the vote?  I guess SLAM.

If it's Janeane Garafalo?  I guess she gets coffee, and multiple autograph requests, and, "any chance you can give me  Al Franken's Phone#?"

I kind of enjoy it when missionaries come to my house.  I'll usually chat with them, and try to be as good naturedly blasphemous as I can.  I don't get mad, but make it clear that I just think their whole business is first-rate comedy.  In reality, I think that religion is generally harmful in many ways, but letting them know that just strengthen's their resolve and makes them feel better about what they're doing.  People love a chance to feel some righteous indignation.  When they realize that you find them amusing, to the point of hlilarity it's kind of offputing and they are usually either entirely pleasant, or squirmingly uncomfortable, which is always entertaining.

p.s.  I think I made up at least two words in this post.

Watched a documentary on channel 4 last night called "Nazi Pop Twins" about prussian blue. If you guys can get your hands on it, its DEFINITELY worth a watch. Turns out the mother is the main culprit with the twins wanting to write and perform normal non racist stuff. Brilliant documentary.
