finding an fs-2 lamp starter...easy thing?
« on: October 22, 2005, 09:51:41 am »
Looking for an FS-2 Surelite starter for my cab's lamp...

are these things common? I mean, could I pick one up at HSC of some other computer parts store? Or is it an arcade specialty type item where I will need to order them from some company in bulk or from some random online parts store?

any help would be appreciated!!

Surelite is just the brand.

FS-2 starters are very common and available at any hardware store (in the lighting section) and even in some grocery stores (again in with the light bulbs).

You'll never find starters in a computer store.

The Home Depot near me puts them in with the circuit breakers for some reason.

lol, just got back and the guy looked around for about 10 minutes for them and couldn't find them. They were on the end of one of isles and pretty damn far from the light bulbs they would be used with....weird,imo...but oh well. It worked and they had 2 for $1.79 so I am ok :)

thanks again!

What do you do with extra FS-2s you ask? Why, build a lamp flicker circuit for Halloween, of course:

(I just built one of these last night, and yes, they are kinda hard to find in the hardware store)

Does it flicker randomly, or can you detect a pattern?
No crap, don't put your kids in a real fridge.

It's fairly random. It depends on the load; the more current you pull, the less it flickers (I've found about 20 watts looks good). It looks best for ambient lighting, when you aren't looking at the actual source. You can't beat it for the price though.
