My recent hack

Well, my buddy bought two new trackballs for his Golden Tee cocktail, so of course I pilfered one of those! I cleaned off the ball with Goof-Off, and relubed the bearings, and it's almost like new. I had some problems getting the TB wired to the mouse PCB, mainly because I think there was a resistor on the PCB stepping my voltage down. Once I bypassed that, it was all good! Here's the pics.

Nice job on that. Your CP looks sweet too. You should write up a nice step-by-step tutorial on that TB/mouse hack for all us who are electronic impared. It'd be a nice addition to the FAQ.

I would, but here's one that's already been done pretty nicely. Things will vary of course depending on the TB and mouse chosen, but otherwise the principle remains the same. (btw I am a big mamewah fanboy.  )

Well I see what you mean, I took a closer look at that tutorial, and he had a seperate wire for +5, which is what I had before I decided to clean it up. Basically you just need to know how to use a multimeter to get this done. Check for resistance to find your ground, by using the ground lead from your psu and touching contacts on the PCB, and use the voltimeter to find the hot leads. I looked up this particular trackball online and found the specs for it, and what voltage it needed to run. I figured out the X and Y +/- through trial and error.
