Powering an LED from the Optipac...
« on: October 17, 2005, 02:47:19 pm »
I have a HAPP light up trackball...I've powered an LED off a 5 volt connection and it works fine, but when I shut off the PC, the TB stays illuminated...
I didn't realize it was a constant power source...is there a connection on the Optipac that will shut off with the PC, or should I see about getting power from somewhere else??
I suppose I could just leave it lit...

Is the Opti-pac powered off of USB?  If so, the USB is still getting power even when the pc is off.

You may be able to change it in your motherboard's BIOS.

Can you use the PS/2 socket instead? That socket does not stay powered.
NO MORE!!

Is the Opti-pac powered off of USB?

It might be under the bios' "power management" settings.  Something like allowing the computer to power on via USB keyboard.

Could it be, by enabling USB keyboard support in the BIOS, that this might cause the USB port to be active all the time?

You may want to download your motherboard's instruction manual and look at it (if you don't have the original).

I am not sure if that would do it or not.  I changed my BIOS settings a couple of times to allow me to power up the system by hitting a button.
