How to configure buttons ?

Ok probobly stupid question...

Is it possible to have the controls setup properly for all/most of the games in mame without having to go through each game and configure them through the tab menu?

Sure.

In the tab menu, select the option that is for all games (vs. this game).

Map controls as desired.

Do that, and then you will still have to go through and manually change a few games. It's impossible to have 1 layout that is perfect for all by default.
