What is the SMALLEST monitor available??????
« on: October 09, 2005, 10:40:02 pm »
Hello,

I am building a bartop out of a tiny poker machine that I picked up.

My questions are what is the smallest VGA monitor available? 14"?

Also, what is the smallest LCD available WITH A VGA input?

Thanks ya'll.

I've seen 9" SVGA in a poker cab

http://www.arcadefever.net/MINI-ARCADE.html

Geez, that 9" SVGA monitor has me thinking about making a scaled upright cabinet super tiny!

So I will ask, while on the topic of smallest, what is the smallest controls?

Thanks,
Craig

Thanks for the reply.

I forgot to mention that right now it has a 10" Hantarex CGA monitor. It is a bit small and I don't want to have to use an arcadevga card.

There is room for what looks like a maximum of 13". Anyone know of a 13" vga monitor?

Thanks!

I think 13" is a common size, have you called your local computer shop?

I have. All the 13" monitors that they have are all old school and well used with hazy pictures. I guess it was a pretty standard size in the mid 80's.

I'm trying to find a modern equivalent or a minty old one.

5" Samtron.

Ain't it cute?

I've got 2 currently I still haven't hooked up.

edit....

Whoops, sorry, I didn't see the vga.

9" Color Vga is the smallest I've ever seen.

(Got one of those also. what can I say, I'm a packrat.)

The next size up in common use was a 14" VGA.
(ebay link to one at 60.00 after shipping    http://tinyurl.com/d6hbf     )

If you stick with cga, you could use a 13" commodore or atari. (The analog rgb ones made for the amiga or the st), I've got a 1084 commodore monitor that looks great on a avga card.

Way back in the day when IBM first introduced their PS/2 line of personal computers, they came with 12" VGA monitors.  I have several of these that I have been saving for bartop machines.

I have a couple of old 12" Mac monitors. They aren't VGA, but there's an adapter available that allows you plug them into a VGA port.

I have a spare 13" vga arcade monitor.  It works perfectly but has a small bit of poker screen burn. I paid $40 shipped for it.  I'd be willing to let go of it for about the same price.  LMK.

I bought a new 14" touchscreen out of case for 40 bucks shipped a long time ago

I still wanna add it to a minicab... but haven't had time.

Anyway, ebay and some time and you have a bunch of options.  Many people think the smaller the cheaper.  And you just have to wait and hope nobody else is watching.

if your machine has video out and your screen doesnt have to be CRT then you could have a  nose at the old PSone tft screens, they are a useful little 5" tft (can also be modded to use component)

There are also a ton of similar sized LCDs out there that are actually made for automotive applications that you can buy pretty cheaply.

I have an 8" VGA LCD (running at 1024x768 currently and it displays great).  It is also touchscreen.  The brand is Lilliput.  If you search on ebay, beware, there are 8" Lilliputs that are VGA, and 8" Lilliputs that are just plain old NTSC.

I actually bought mine from a company in Hong Kong.  It was SUPER cheap (considering).  I paid almost half what they are selling for from us online retailers.  I paid something like $50 for shipping, but that was **3** day express mail from HK, incl. insurance!  ($239 + S/H - most places are selling them for around $350-$380+)

THis is the place:
http://www.ex-audio.com/shop/index.php

BTW, excellent customer service as well.

You probably don't want the y" model as that one is 15:9 Aspect ration (yes, 15:9, not 16:9).

Also, if you have room in teh cab, but just want a smaller picture, get a 14" VGA monitor and use the controls on it to shrink the picture down so it doesn't fill up the whole screen/tube.
