If it were me, I'd want a break from the carpentry and would wire up the keyboard encoder(s) and wire one of the CPs.

Of course, I did exactly that a couple of years ago and you run the risk of having a fully functioning but unfinished cabinet. If you do that, you may never finish.

So you'd probably be better off installing those speakers and fans.

None of us are ever finished. The sooner you learn to accept that the sooner you can get on with your life. :)

This is too true.  Whenever you reach the stage where you can see light at the end of the tunnel, you'll think of 10 other things to do...

I'm going on 2 years now.... The cab is still just an empty wood box (primed though!). Monitor is in a box. Computer is set up and software working. Everything else is parts just waiting for assembly.
NO MORE!!

that's your problem ray, your computer is up and running with the software...you need to cut off your supply of arcade games to motivate you to finish the cab.

on topic though, i love how i've been building my cab for a year or so now, and have gone through so many different controls.  i've gone through three complete joystick turnovers for just my basic panel.  i never even used my first two sets of joysticks, or even my third for that matter.  to tell the truth, i haven't played an arcade game for at least 6 months.  :o

I was just pondering the same thing (while I slowly sanded the edge of some Lexan that's needed the sanding for at least 2 years).  That is, I kinda like how it's never done. What exactly does "done" mean anyway?

My advice for javeryh is to do whatever you want to next. It doesn't matter since there's always something else anyway. Might as well pick something that suits your fancy today. It's rainy here today. I don't know why I elected to sand Lexan but it seemed like the thing to do.

I was done for a year or so... til GGG made the 49way adapter... and then my computer crapped out. Now it's like I'm back to square one... doing so much work again.

I wouldn't have it any other way, though.

I never got around to painting the last one. Just put it together and started playing games. It does have all the artwork, just no paint.

Yeah I mistakenly finished my 2nd one -- and then did not have anything else to do on it!  The 1st one still has small things to finish but I may soon be dismanlting it to use the controls and computer in a different configuration!  :-\

Boy, I'm glad it's not just me.  I'm replacing a wood control panel in a cocktail for a metal one with a real pac joystick.  It's a pain in the rear.  The control panel was fine in the first place.......it just wasn't perfect.

The only advice I have to offer is DO NOT INSTALL THE COMPUTER UNTIL EVERYTHING ELSE IS DONE!!!

If you can power up the PC and play games on it before the cabinet is complete you will never finish ;D

Hehe. That's certainly what happened to me. I got enough of the frame together to get it to stand and then plowed into building the CP and getting the cab functional. In retrospect, it cost me two years of progress.

The last thing I did on both my cabs was the CP wiring. That way there were no temptations...... ;D ;D
