sticky laminant remover ...
« on: October 09, 2005, 03:50:34 pm »
I recently bought an Operation Wolf cabinet to restore (a more daunting first restoration project than I first thought).

On the control panel is a layer of thin film / laminate that is starting to come up on the edges, it looks like it was applied after market because the other cabinet I have doesn't have it and on this one it overlaps weirdly.

Does anyone have any recommendations for how to remove it without damaging the graphics below it?

Thanks!

James

Get a heat gun with a flat nozzle.  A high-powered (meaning mucho heat) hair dryer MAY work, but you can buy the heat gun and tell your wife you bought her a new hair dryer for Sweetest Day ;D

Don't let the heat gun sit in one spot, but move it around in that general area.  It'll prolly peel up in pieces on you, but you might get lucky.

Good Luck

I am worried though that that might also damage the graphics below it.  Looks like they were printed on to the wood (my other OP Wolf cab has it all scratched up like it was run through a printer - not applied like a graphic)

Its a good idea though.

On the other hand, maybe it would just add character by leaving it there and putting a piece of plexi over it so that nothing more peels up.
