The Tahoe looks really good in person. This is going to be the first line of full size suv's to get over 20mpg combined (Highway/city) thanks to its displacement on demand technology and newly designed aerodynamic body along with a greater angled windsheild.

You'd never fit in a European parking space. I'll stick with my little S-10 thankyou very much. It may not be as fancy or as luxurious, but atleast it wont take me 30 minutes to find a place to park.

Another over-priced GM product that will be worth half its value in a year.  And in a time where gas is over $1 CDN / $3 US, they should be developing products with higher gas mileage.

Wow! 20 miles to the gallon? That's great! Cars got that kind of mileage 25 years ago. So much for technology. I hope Americans wake up one day and finally start producing, and more importantly buying more fuel efficient, less polluting vehicles. (In larger quantities) This freakin Hummer mentality can't last.

You need to put Road Warrior style armor plating all over it and paint "this isn't an SUV, f***ers!" across the front.

the manufacture of these large vehicles should be made illegal. unless you have a valid work reason, or multiple children there should at least be steep taxs and fees to discourage their purchase.
there should be a weight limit placed on personal vehicles.
cause you know I cant wait to be paying 700$ a month to heat my apartment this winter and 68$ bucks to fill my tank once a week. :/
im amazed at the utter stupidity of this nation sometimes.
does the sticker mention that it runs on the souls of dead coalition soldiers?

does the sticker mention that it runs on the souls of dead coalition soldiers?

Before I post this I will truly say that I have high support for our troops. I think they do an awesome job in protecting the nation. Lets not forget however some of the facts. The war is not only about gas. I dont see hybrid hummers over there that get 50 mpg either. The government is using one of the most inefficent gas guzzlers out there. The government relies on automakers to supply them with these hummers to protect the troops. If an auto maker only made these for the govrnment and not available for the public do you know how much more expensive they would be to the government? This in effect would raise the prices that we have to pay in taxes.

Right - the war isn't just about gas - it was about Bush getting the guy that almost got his Daddy...

And there's NO way the gov't could be more efficient about their expenditures. It's a shame that so many people have been brainwashed into thinking that the ONLY solution with money is to raise taxes. Ever look at a corporation, and how they handle money problems? They cut the fat!

Could never do that with the gov't, because it is mostly fat...

Do not complain about gm's suvs and trucks gas mileage until you first complain about these cars that get less mileage.

First, SUV's make the roads suck for more reasons than just gas mileage.  They take up multiple parking spaces.  They are ugly.  They ensure death for the passengers of any car they crash into.  They ruin visibility (ever tried backing out of a parking space in a car with an SUV on either side of you?  Ever tried to turn out of a parking lot onto the street with SUVs parked on at the curb so you can't tell if there is any traffic coming?).

Second, luxury cars and sport cars make up a tiny percentage of vehicles on the road.  SUVs make up over half.  An individual GTO may be as bad for the environment as a Ford Explorer, but there's probably 1/100th the number of GTOs as there are Explorers.  And let's not forget that the 2005 Ford Excursion gets 10 MPG in the city.  There's not a car out there with anything like that kind of fuel economy until you get into the super exotics like Lamborghinis (sp?) that cost a quarter million dollars and a normal person only even sees on the road 20 or thirty times in his entire life.

I just thought these type of cars were popular in America because you needed the extra power to transport your supersized lard asses.

Maybe my hatred for SUVs stems from the same subconscious hangup that causes my venomous feelings toward obesity, now that you mention it.

There is a reason why there is so many suv's. I will let common sense tell you about that one. I agree that the huge suv's are to big. I think the largest a vehicle should be is the size of the tahoe or yukon. Where I live I see a lambo, ford gt supercar, and a classic Ferrari everyday at the neighbors houses. I consider my self a normal person how ever, just surrounded by prestigious members of society. It is beautiful to see those cars everyday but i do wonder what their thoughts about gas are. They probably dont even care. I also agree that Suvs can be a little on the big side and hard to see around. Even in a suv i sometimes have trouble seeing around them on corners so i sympathize with everyone there.

I will probably be locking this thread shortly because i can see that the majority of this forum are economist freaks and that this issue will cause a big arguement. Sorry I ever brought this up. If you have anything to say before I lock it go ahead and say it. It will be a couple of days probably before I lock it.

i see people buying suv's all the time cause they have familes or think it's safe.  like mentioned above, there's a food chain.  semis kill buses that kill suv's that kill normal cars that kill sports cars.  just buy a freakin 4/5 passenger and stick the arcade machine on the roof of the car.

Bump for everybodys enjoyment. Did not want to start a huge argument. Should not of said "freaks" sorry about that I just dont like it when people comment that suvs are going to be the end of the world. Please by all means continue on though. One's freedom of speech is protected.

don't worry about it, threads have a way of going thier own course around here. Some say that SUV's are going to be the end of the world, others say it's George Bush, other's have more normal views such as the lack of bacon will cause the world to end.

ehhh to each their own ...........

Seriously nobody said that SUVs are going to be the end of the world.  They said they are gas guzzlers and gigantic, ruin visibility, and take up multiple parking spaces.  And yes, they take up multiple parking spaces.  In practice they often take up multiple parking spaces in parking lotse either because they are driven by fools who can't handle them properly or it is something so enormous, like the excursion, that it is literally too big to fit in many parking spaces.  But they ALWAYS take up multiple parking spaces on the street where cars must park parallel to the curb.

Anyway these are all accurate and perfectly reasonable complaints.  Additionally they drive the price of gas up for all of us by increasing demand.

In fact, now that I mention it....Increased demand means increased reliance on foreign oil.  Increased reliance on foreign oil means maintaining an evil government in Saudi Arabia to provide us with cheap oil.  Maintaining said evil monarchy means more Saudi's take up Jihad against us.  This inevitably leads to WWIII and the end of the world.  SUVs really ARE the end of the world!!!

I work at a car dealership and we have not a slowdown on SUV and Truck purchases since the gas prices have been rising. I have seen some people downgrade their Suburban or Expedition for a Smaller SUV or Mini-Van, but it's Deer Hunting season and so everyone is coming in to buy their trucks.

As for the 2007 Tahoes... It's about time for Chevy to change the body style of the SUV ? Truck lines. We have seen this new style already in their Envoys, now it will finally hit thier bigger vehicles. The sad thing is that these still have the same features as the current body style vehicles yet, will cost $10k more just for the new design.

I hope it increases GM sales. They weren't doing good until they offered the employee pricing bit.

I believe so. It is either the Yukon or Tahoe. I would rather pay less for basically the same suv, that in my opinion, looks better.

Funny thing is the H2 is actually cheaper than a Tahoe\Yukon\Escalade if bought as a business vehicle. It qualifys for a conciderable tax credit ment for people who need a big truck (e.g. Chevy Topkick/GM Kodiak) for their business, but applys equally to any business vehicle over a given weight. That's why you see lots of H2s with a small business's logo splashed on them.

there was a ladder in the middle of the street the other day, and the SUVS were too scared to run over it while the normal cars were taking it at full stride.

My wife and I looked a hybrid Escape the other day. Not a bad little car in my opinion, and 36 MPG isn't too shabby for an SUV. Of course it's nothing near the size of a Suburban or an H2.

It's also nowhere near the price of a standard Escape.  Stick with your Mini.
